Panthers Drop Road Game to Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's basketball team fell to Lynn, 76-65, on the road on Saturday afternoon in a weekend conference game with the Fighting Knights.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 65, Lynn 76
Records: Florida Tech (11-5, 4-5 SSC), Lynn (11-4, 6-3 SSC)
Location: de Hoernle Sports Center| Boca Raton, Fla.
 
FIRST HALF:
  • Lynn started the game by going up 4-0 on their first few possessions. A tough second-chance layup by Elias Martin put Tech on the board and made it 4-2 with 17:34 on the clock.
  • A made jumper for Lynn put the Fighting Knights up 8-4 heading into the first media timeout.
  • Back-to-back layups from David McCullough tied the game back up for the Panthers, 8-8, with 14:20 remaining in the half.
  • Lynn came back with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes until McCullough knocked down a three-point jumper to cut into the lead, 16-13. But the Fighting Knights would answer with a trey of their own to make it 19-13 heading into the under 12-minute media timeout.
  • Both defenses would lock in over the next several minutes, with the lone field goal coming from a McCullough layup to make it 19-15. The teams would head into the third media timeout of the half with that score with 7:22 to go.
  • Rahsaan Edwards drilled a triple out of the timeout for Tech, but Lynn would respond with 11 unanswered points to make it 30-18 with just over four minutes left in the half.
  • Two made free throws by Martin brought the Panthers within 10, 33-23, with 2:19 on the clock.
  • Both teams traded a few more baskets to close out the half. Elhadji "ET" Thiam made a second-chance layup for Tech to cut the lead down to 38-27 heading into halftime.
 
SECOND HALF:
  • Lynn began the second half with a 10-4 run to take a 48-31 lead into the first media timeout with 15:24 to go.
  • A Niall Harris basket sparked an 8-0 run for the Panthers that was capped off with a McCullough dunk to bring Lynn's lead down to 53-40 with 11:30 on the clock and force the Fighting Knights to call a timeout.
  • Both teams would trade baskets and possessions over the next several minutes. Following a timeout, a steal and a layup by McCullough made it a nine-point game, 60-51 with 5:41 to play.
  • The back and forth would continue over the next few minutes. A layup by Max Polk made it a 68-58 game with just over two minutes left in the game.
  • Tech battled until the end but was unable to chip away at the lead in the final moments, and the game ended with a final score of 76-65.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • David McCullough led the Panthers with 20 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
  • Niall Harris scored 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out three assists.
  • Max Polk scored 10 points and hauled in six boards off the bench.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 25-39 all-time against Lynn, including 13-18 in Boca Raton.
  • Niall Harris has now recorded at least five rebounds in 21 straight games.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will next play on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when the Panthers host Barry for a midweek SSC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Clemente Center in Melbourne, Fla.
