Florida Tech Drops Close Road Contest to Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's basketball team dropped a close Sunshine State Conference road game to Lynn, falling 55-47 on Saturday afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Dalma Ehmann gets the Panthers on the board first with a turnaround jumper in the paint.
  • Rachel Romich would give Lynn their first points on a triple, but Tech took back the lead with two free throws from Divine Guthrie.
  • Guthrie capitalized on a bad pass by Lynn to get the steal and push the ball up the floor for a fast break basket by Lina Stranger-Johannessen to make it 6-3, 6:27 remaining.
  • Teams went cold for the next 3:21.
  • Ella Fiore ended the drought for Lynn on a layup.
  • Tech went on a 5-1 run to end the period up by two, 9-7.
 
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Lynn knocked down a wide-open three to open the second quarter and take back the lead, 10-9.
  • Over the next four minutes, both teams recorded two free throws, a piece, and a jumper. Tech's points came from Tai Roberts and Emily Acampora.
  • Fouled on the putback, Kyandra Poitier was sent to the line and split two free throws to tie it up, 14-14.
  • Poitier then took the lead back for the Panthers on a second-chance layup with 4:28 to go.
  • The lead changed twice before Lynn's two made free throws would end the half and put the Fighting Knights up by one, 19-18.
 
THIRD QUARTER:
  • Lynn took their largest lead yet, 23-18, opening the quarter with back-to-back jumpers.
  • Guthrie's jumper in the paint would cut the deficit 23-20, 7:48 to go.
  • Tech regained the lead, 25-24, on their next two possessions thanks to two free throws from Poitier and an Acampora three.
  • Fiore sunk back-to-back baskets before the under-five-minute media timeout to push Lynn past Tech, 28-25.
  • Teams traded points before a three by Channing Chappel extended Lynn's lead to six with under two minutes to go.
  • Sarah Liberatore recorded a free throw before Lynn's Channing Chappell converted a three-point play with 46 seconds on the clock.
  • Lynn ended the third quarter with an eight-point lead over Tech, 39-31.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Tech and Lynn traded points for the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, with each team posting nine points.
  • Back-to-back layups by Poitier cut the deficit to four with 1:37 to go.
  • An open three on Lynn's next possession would push it back to a seven-point contest.
  • Four straight free throws by Daniella Montelbano would give Lynn a comfortable lead with 31 seconds left, 55-44.
  • Roberts split a pair of free throws and posted a layup over the next 10 seconds, but Lynn would hold possession for the remaining time and earn the 55-47 win over Tech.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Kyandra Poitier posted a double-double with 16 points on 8-12 shooting and 12 rebounds. She also added a steal.
  • Tai Roberts followed with 10 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
  • Olivia Stephens grabbed five rebounds while adding five points, two steals, and one block.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 32-24 against the Lynn Fighting Knights.
  • Tech finished the game shooting 29.1% (16-55) from the field, 20% (2-10) from beyond the arc, and 72.2% (13-18) on free throws.
  • Lynn shot 47.5% (19-40) in the contest, 50% (7-14) from the three-point range, and 76.9% (10-13) from the line.
  • Lynn held the advantage in rebounds (34-29), points in the paint (24-22), and bench points (31-20).
  • The Panthers grabbed more steals (12-8), fast breaks (5-0), second-chance points (10-2), and points off turnovers (22-8).
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to the Clemente Center on January 24 to host Barry in a mid-week matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
