Two Panthers set Career High's as Tech Falls at Home to Barry

MELBOURNE, Fla.-  Florida Tech women's basketball returned home Wednesday night for a weeknight SSC matchup against the Barry Buccaneers. Breazia Robinson recorded a career high 15 points and two blocks while Emily Acampora recorded a career high six threes in the game, but it wasn't enough as the Bucs managed to pull out the win 84-75..

FIRST QUARTER 
  • Chiara Fusari of Barry was the first to score 1:25 into the quarter before Tai Roberts answered back to put the Panthers on the board 10 seconds later.
  • An eight-point run pushed the Bucs ahead 11-2.
  • Tech responded scoring six unanswered points off of two layups in a row by Sarah Liberatore and one from Breazia Robinson.
  • With Tech down by two with 3:36 remaining, Kyandra Poitier was sent to the line, making both free throws to tie it at 12-12.
  • Scoring five straight, Barry would lead 17-12, until Robinson and Poitier responded with a layup each to make it a one-point game 17-16.
  • Fusari and Emily Acampora traded threes to keep Barry lead at one prior to Barry recording the final five points of the first to make it 25-19 entering the second.
 
SECOND QUARTER
  • Tech started out the second quarter strong, recording seven straight points to take its first lead of the game 25-25.
  • Tech run was highlighted by a three from Acampora.
  • The Panthers and Buccaneers battled back and forth until six unanswered points from Barry made it a 33-28 Bucs lead with .4:02 to play before half.
  • As Tech looked to take the lead to enter the half, The Panthers were able to outscore the Bucs 4-3, but it wasn't enough to take the lead as the panthers found themselves down by four 36-32 at the end of the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER 
  • A three from Audrey Jennings of Barry allowed put the Bucs ahead 44-36 in the first three minutes of the third.
  • Deirde Miller and Poitier helped the Panthers cause to keep the Panthers deficit to nine at 49-40.
  • Another layup from Poitier and Liberatore were the Panthers response from a jumper by Fusari and two made free-throws by Madison Mcferrin.
  • Liberatore's first layup sparked a eight point run by Tech as the Crimson and Gray fought back to make it a three point game, 53-50.
  • Breazia Robinson recorded the final basket of the quarter with 12 seconds remaining as the Panthers were down by just five 60-55.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Audrey Jennings of Barry tallied five of the Buccaneers first nine points helping the Bucs pull out to a 69-57 lead.
  • A pair of threes and a layup from Acampora were all answered by two points from Barry as Tech's deficit fell to 10, 75-65.
  • Liberatore would manage to record a steal and immediately score of the fastbreak to make it 75-67.
  • Two baskets by Barry and a layup from Robinson would put the score at 79-69 with 3:35 left to play.
  • In the final minute, the Buccaneers would make five of their final six free throws with Acampora hitting her sixth three of the night with seven seconds remaining to take home the 84-75 win.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Breazia Robinson recorded a career high 15 points and three blocks against the Buccaneers going 7-10 in field goals and recording one free throw at the line.
  • Emily Acampora recorded a new career high six three-point field goals going 6-9 from behind the line, finishing with 18 total points.
  • Divine Guthrie and Lina Stranger-Johannessen both led the Panthers with a total of four rebounds.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Florida Tech is now 45-37 all-time against the Buccaneers with the Panthers last win coming back on March 7, 2021, in Miami Shores.
  • The Panthers last win at the Clemente Center came back on February 13, 2021in a 76-66 triumph.
  • The Panthers are now 24-14 all-time at home vs. Barry.
  • Florida Tech shot 46.8% (29-62) in field goals, 46.2% (6-13) from beyond the arch and shot 47.8% (11-23) at the free throw line.
  • Barry finished with a field goal percentage of 36.9% (24-65), shot 36.4% (8-22) in three's while making 65.1% (28-43) of its free throws.
 
UP NEXT:
The Panthers will have the weekend off before traveling to (RV) Rollins on Wednesday, January 31st to take on the Tars. Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 P.M.
