Panthers Draw With Sharks

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A last-minute goal from Nova Southeastern gave the Florida Tech women's soccer team its first draw of the season, 1-1, in a hard fought midweek conference match.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Both teams began the match in a battle for possession. The first official shot of the match came in the 11th minute from Tech freshman Katie Ormerod, but her attempt sailed over the crossbar.
  • Another 10 minutes went by before the next shot attempt, this time from NSU but Panther keeper Kaitlin Sinkler was able to make a save to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the 22nd minute, Ximena Jauregui took a rip at the goal for Tech, but the NSU keeper came up with a great diving save that gave the Panthers a corner kick.
  • Marta Llopis took the corner and the ball bounced off a Shark and into the back of the net to put Tech up 1-0 in the 23rd minute.
  • Neither team would get another shot off in the half and the teams went into halftime with a score of 1-0.
  • The second half began like the first, with a battle for possession. In the 57th minute, Nora Oldmark saw an opportunity to put the Panthers up two, but her shot was just stopped by the outstretched hands of the NSU keeper.
  • After some more back and forth, NSU put a shot on target in the 79th minute. Sinkler was able to come up with another big save to preserve the lead.
  • With the clock winding down, Tabea Schutt fielded a pass in the box and notched the equalizer for NSU with 38 seconds left on the clock.
  • After a short scramble to try and put a last-second shot on target, the clock expired and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Tech moves to 11-14-2 all-time against NSU, including a 6-7-1 record at home against the Sharks.
  • This is the first draw of the season for the Panthers.
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will host Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field in Melbourne, Fla.
