Four Different Panthers Score in Road Win Over Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team hit the road and cruised to a 4-1 win over Florida Southern in a weekend Sunshine State Conference (SSC) match.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • In the eighth minute of the match, Alice Mottershead played the ball out to Halla Helgadottir who sent a perfect cross into the box to a streaking Ximena Jauregui who knocked the ball into the back of the net to put Tech up 1-0.
  • The Panther defense allowed the first Florida Southern shot in the 21st minute, but Kaitlin Sinkler came up with the save to preserve the lead.
  • Just over 10 minutes later, Daniela Tobon dumped a pass off to Marta Llopis who deposited a shot from outside the box past the keeper to give Tech a 2-0 lead.
  • Both teams battled for possession for the rest of the half and the teams went into halftime with a score of 2-0.
  • Just five minutes out of halftime, Wood sent a cross into the box that found Sara Batchadji on the far end who scored her first goal of the season to put the Panthers up 3-0.
  • Florida Southern got on the board with a goal from Rilee Hasegawa in the 60th minute.
  • Both teams went back and forth with possession for the next several minutes.
  • In the 73rd minute, Llopis sent a pass up to Wood in transition, who knocked the ball past the charging keeper to put Tech back up by three goals, 4-1.
  • Florida Southern tried to rally, but the Panthers were able to keep the Mocs from getting another shot off for the rest of the match.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 15-8-6 all-time against Florida Southern, including a 6-5-2 record on the road in Lakeland.
  • With her three points tonight, Marta Llopis now leads the SSC in goals (7), and points (16).
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will host Eckerd on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Panthers will be honoring their seniors prior to kickoff with Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Rick Stottler Field.
