Tech Battles to Draw at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer resumed its suspended match from Sept. 12 with Flagler at halftime tied at 2-2, and neither team was able to find the back of the net in the final 45 minutes to earn a draw.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: No. 14 Florida Tech 2, Flagler 2
Records: No. 14 Florida Tech (7-2-2, 4-1-1 SSC), Flagler (5-2-5, 3-2-3 PBC)
Location: Saints Field | St. Augustine, Fla.
 
STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • Flagler jumped out to an early lead with a goal in just the sixth minute of the match.
  • Less than four minutes later, Daniela Tobon scored the equalizer for Tech off a second chance shot.
  • Both teams battled for possession until the 20th minute when the Saints took a 2-1 lead with goal from Andrea Fernandes.
  • The Panthers maintained possession after the next whistle and finally broke through in the 37th minute after Sara Batchadji ripped a shot off the post and into the back of the net to knot the game at 2-2.
  • Two minutes later, Nora Oldmark managed a shot on target for Tech, but the Saints keeper was able to make the save and the teams went into halftime tied at 2-2.
  • During halftime the lights would not turn back on and the teams suspended the match. The match was resumed on Oct. 24.
  • The Panthers opened the second half dominating possession. Earning five corner kicks and putting six shots on target in the first 30 minutes of the period, but were unable to take the lead.
  • In the 80th minute, the Saints threatened with numbers in the box and managed to get off two close-range shots, but Kaitlin Sinkler came up with two great saves to keep the match tied at 2-2.
  • Four minutes later, Fernandes looked to take the lead for Flagler, but her shot rang off the crossbar and safely away and the match remained tied.
  • Batchadji got the last shot of the match off for the Panthers in the 87th minute, but it sailed just high and wide of the goal and the match ended with a final score of 2-2.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 6-3-2 all-time against Flagler.
  • Daniela Tobon notched her first goal of the season.
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will return to the confines of Stottler Field on Saturday, Oct. 24 for Senior Day against Eckerd. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla. with Senior Day festivities approximately 20 minutes prior to kickoff.
