Jahnsen’s First Goal Leads Panthers to Win Over Lions

MELBOURNE, Fla. Joakim Jahnsen's first goal of the season lifted the Florida Tech men's soccer team to its second win over Saint Leo of the season. The Panthers took the lead in the first half and never gave it up in a 1-0 victory.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • Saint Leo came out firing, outshooting Florida Tech five shots to two in the first 30 minutes, including three in the first five minutes of the match.
  • However, in the 30th minute, Joakim Jahnsen cut across the eighteen box to the center of the field and ripped the ball to the back right corner of the net, giving the Panthers the 1-0 lead.
  •  The Lions took two more shots in the half but could not find the equalizer.
  • Tech went on the defensive in the second half, allowing shots but not letting up a goal. Saint Leo shot four times before the Tech attempted their first in the 87th minute.
  • The Panthers held the Lions off the scoreboard for the entire second half, earning their third clean sheet of the season.

  • The Panthers lead the all-time series 26-14-3 overall and 14-6-1 at home over the Lions. 
  • The Panthers are unbeaten in the past 12 meetings since November 2014 and the past six at Rick Stottler Field.

  • Joakim Jahnsen took two shots and scored his first goal of the season in 37 minutes off the bench.
  • Gene Lewis started his third straight game and played 39 minutes.
  • Iker Bastida played 90 minutes, earned his fifth win, and made four saves.
