Panthers Down Saint Leo Handedly on the Road 3-0

Box Score MELBOURNE, FLA. – Florida Tech Panthers volleyball took the sweep victory on the road at Saint Leo.

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Set:
  • The Panthers looked to defeat the Saint Leo Lions in a conference matchup as they continue to fight for a top spot as the regular season ends.
  • It was Irene Kitson who got the scoring going for the Panthers with a kill assisted by Kari Voelstad Bogen.
  • Each team would exchange points up to the 5-6 mark when the Panthers would look to take hold of the set.
  • Tech would score nine straight and Cordelia Kearns entered the box score accounting for three service aces, 14-6.
  • The Panthers would hold onto the lead as the Lions would respond with a (1-3) run to cut the Panther lead to six, 15-9.
  • Tech would respond with an (8-1) to take control permanently as Chiara Patelli would leave her print with multiple kills, 23-10.
  • With the help of an error from the Lions and a spike on set point from Lilan Muszynski, the Panthers would take set one, 25-14.
 
Second Set:
  • Just as set one went, set two would get started with a Kitson kill to get the Panthers on the board first.
  • The Panthers would jump out to a 4-1 lead and continue to pour it on erupting to a (7-3) run with Muszynski leading the way with three kills along the way, (11-4).
  • Tech would never trail in this after building the large lead as the whole line up outside of the assist setters Kenzie Delacher, Jeanne Hassoun, and Courtney Caper would record multiple kills.
  • Tech would again coast to the win column in set two with solid team play, 25-16.
 
Third Set:
  • For the third time in a row Kitson would jump onto the board to register a kill for the Panthers as they looked to close this one out in three sets.
  • The Lions had other plans and would jump to an early 1-3 lead after a (0-3) run.
  • Tech would answer with a (9-1) run to quickly go up big, (10-4).
  • Caper would register multiple aces, and Patelli multiple kills in the efficient run.
  • As the Panthers looked to take full control, Kearns would register multiple kills, Hassoun an ace, Tessa Mati multiple kills and errors on the Lions would jump the Panthers to a 17-10 lead.
  • The Lions would storm back and tie the game at 17-17 which would force a Tech timeout.
  • Out of the timeout Kearns would lead to the Panthers to victory with five kills in the final eight points needed to win the set and take the sweep victory.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:  
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Cordelia Kearns now has over 400 kills for the season, a mark that only has been reached seven times in program history by six different players.
  • Jeanne Hassoun needs just 1 service ace to be the first Panther to record 40 service aces in a season since Caitlyn Ballweber in 2010.
  • All-time 27-36 vs. Saint Leo (since 1993)
  • First season sweep since 2003 and first win at Saint Leo since November 14, 2003 (21 years and 1 day)
  • Tech snaps a 19-game losing streak to Saint Leo

The Panthers will stay on the road and travel to Eckerd College tomorrow November 16th at 4pm to close out their conference series with the Tritons.
