Panthers Shutout Tampa at Home

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team hosted Tampa on Monday night in the final home match of the regular season and used three first half goals to defeat the Spartans.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: No. 13 Florida Tech 3, Tampa 0
Records: No. 13 Florida Tech (10-2-2, 7-1-1 SSC), Tampa (5-2-7, 1-2-6 SSC)

STATS OF THE MATCH:
  • The battle for possession began early with both teams jostling the ball up and down the field.
  • In just the 15th minute of the match, Daniela Tobon sent a pass into the box that found the head of Savannah Oxley who knocked the ball in the back of the net to put Tech up 1-0.
  • The Panthers began to dominate possession and got two more shots off in the next five minutes.
  • In the 23rd minute, Marta Llopis sent a cross into the box that was fielded by Sara Batchadji and then put into the goal by Rebecca Storr to extend Tech's lead to 2-0.
  • Just over a minute later, Llopis used a rebound off of a Ximena Jauregui shot to send a rocket past the diving Spartan keeper to make it a 3-0 contest.
  • The Panthers continued to control the ball for the rest of the half, getting three more shots off.
  • Tech did not allow Tampa to take a shot in the first half.
  • The possession battle continued in the second half for several minutes.
  • The Panthers saw an opportunity to tack on another score in the 78th minute when Nora Oldmark ripped back-to-back point-blank shots, but the Spartans keeper made two tremendous saves to keep the score at 3-0.
  • Tampa got its first shot off in the 84th minute, but it sailed wide of the goal and the match eventually ended with a final score of 3-0.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 6-13-8 all-time against Tampa, including a 3-8-4 record at home against the Spartans.
  • Marta Llopis now leads the conference in goals (9) and points (22).
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will conclude the regular season on Thursday, Nov. 8 on the road against Barry. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Miami Shores, Fla. A win against the Bucs would clinch the regular season SSC title for the Panthers.
