STATS OF THE MATCH:
First Half:
- Head Coach Billy Mims had to go with a new line up for the Panthers this season coming off a year where all five previous starters graduated.
- Naturally, there are some growing pains that comes with a whole new line up, but it was evident that both teams were playing hard and some early signs that Tech's defense is going to be a key point for the Panthers this year.
- Tech would find themselves in an early eight-point hole as the Edward Waters Tigers would start strong to the game, (12-20).
- A crucial timeout would bring in a new lineup for the Panthers and the lineup would bring new life to the squad.
- Tech would immediately erase the eight-point deficit and tie at 20-20 before taking the lead at 24-22 via a turnover by the Tigers and layup from Donavan Brown.
- Max Polk would be the one to lead the Panthers comeback in the half as he scored 14 first-half points.
- It would be Tech that would take the one-point lead heading into Halftime.
- Tech and Edward Waters shot almost identical up to the midway point (40% from the field and around 20% from the three-point line).
Second Half:
- The Panthers would start hot in the second half climbing to a seven-point lead courtesy of Donavan Brown with the help of some strong team defense, (37-30).
- The Tigers would respond and fight to keep the game close as Mac Polk and Donavan Brown would do their best to help keep the lead for Tech both with double-digit point efforts at this point.
- Thanks to a (6-0) run from Marko Malekinusic the Panthers lead would stay around three
- That was until the Tigers would erase that lead with a (4-13) run and take the lead at 54-56.
- Tech would fight and reclaim the lead once more at the 64-63 mark with the help of Polk free throws.
- The Tigers would then close out the game on an (1-11) run to close out the game and take the win.
