AMERICUS, Ga. – Florida Tech women's basketball team drops season opener to No. 17 Georgia Southwestern, 85-61.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
- After letting up two free throws, Mikayla Morin got the Panthers on the board with her first career bucket.
- The Hurricanes went on an 11-0 run before Kyandra Poitier stopped it with a layup with four minutes left in the quarter.
- Morin scored four more points for a total of six to lead the Panthers at the quarter break. However, Tech was down 20-10.
SECOND QUARTER:
- Dalma Ehmann opened the second quarter by grabbing a defensive rebound, then the bucket on the other end.
- Florida Tech forced Georgia Southwestern to foul, leading to seven made free throws out of nine attempts.
- Poitier led the team, tallying six points and two rebounds.
THIRD QUARTER:
- The Panthers cut the Hurricane's lead down to 12 with two straight field goals by Poitier and Breazia Robinson.
- Robinson hit a mid-range jumper a minute later to draw within 11.
- However, the Hurricanes began to pull away, going on a 26-10 run.
FOURTH QUARTER:
- The Panthers had their best quarter in the fourth, shooting 45 percent from the field.
- Tai Roberts, Divine Guthrie, and Sarah Liberatore hit layups in the first minute of the quarter.
- Robinson forced an and-one situation, hitting a layup while being fouled. She would finish the play, cashing in on the free throw.
- Poitier dominates the game's final minutes, racking up five of the Panthers' 13 points.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
- Kyandra Poitier led the team in points (18), rebounds (9), and assists (3). She also grabbed a steal.
- At the start of her career, Mikayla Morin tallied 14 points and five rebounds, including four offensive rebounds.
- Dalma Ehmann swatted two blocks away, scoring three points and grabbing two rebounds.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- This is just the second time the two teams have played each other. The first meeting occurred on November 26, 2010
