Women’s Basketball Downed by Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite freshman Nadine Johnson's career-high 16 points, the Panthers fell to the Eagles, 83-51. It marks Johnson's second double-digit scoring game of her young career.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Despite going down 5-0, Mikayla Morin and Sarah Liberatore secured four points in the paint to make it 7-4.
  • Following the media timeout, Liberatore drained two free throws to keep the Panthers within three points.
  • However, the Eagles went on a 10-0 run before Tai Roberts wrapped up the first quarter with a layup. Tech was sown 19-8 at the end of the quarter.
 SECOND QUARTER:
  • Embry-Riddle kept their momentum going into the second quarter, rattling off a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 32-10
  • However, Nadine Johnson started to cook for the Panthers, ending the run by nailing a 15-foot jumper.
  • After a Roberts layup, Johnson would make another jumper from around the same spot two minutes later.
  • Johnson controlled the final minute, getting to the charity stripe and going three-for-four. The second pair of free throws came after she stole the ball from the Eagles and drove it to the basket on the other end. The Panthers were still behind 39-17 when the half ended.
  • The freshman shooter totaled seven points in the quarter, leading the team for the game. She also grabbed three rebounds and a steal.
 THIRD QUARTER:
  • Despite the halftime break, Johnson kept her fire burning, splashing another deeper jumper for Tech's first points of the half.
  • With an Eagles' 47-19 lead, Kyandra Poitier cashes in on back-to-back jumpers in the paint.
  • After an Embry-Riddle 9-0 run, Liberatore hit the Panthers three-pointer, making the score 56-26 Eagles' edge.
  • Sparked by a Divine Guthrie jumper, Tech went on an 11-0 run, their largest of the game, to conclude the third quarter down 62-37.
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • The biggest Panther highlight of the final quarter was a Johnson three-pointer from the corner, which pushed her to 16 points and a new career high.
  • Another freshman in Sydney Logsdon scored four of the final seven Tech points, including the final basket.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Nadine Johnson led all Panthers with a career-high 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Johnson also tallied and led the team with six rebounds, one assist, and three steals.
  • Breazia Robinson swatted two blocks.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers move to 7-10 all-time against the Eagles.
  • Tech is 3-5 all-time at Embry-Riddle, with their last win at the ICI Center being a 77-62 victory on January 4, 2020.
 UP NEXT: Florida Tech remains on the road, traveling to Lakeland to face Florida Southern on Saturday, December 7.
