Tech Takes Series With Game Three Win Over Augusta

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech baseball team took the weekend series from Augusta this afternoon with a 6-4 victory in game three to put the Panthers over .500 on the season.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 6, Augusta 4
Records: Florida Tech (6-5, 0-0 SSC), Augusta (4-7, 0-0 PBC)
Location: Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field | Melbourne, Fla.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Augusta would strike first in the top of the first inning with an RBI single by Harrison Aulds.
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Roman Samson hit a two-out single to spark a rally for Tech. Gabe Garrett would follow up with a single of his own, and two walks and a hit-by-pitch plated both Samson and Garrett to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead.
  • Noah Burke kept the rally going with a two-RBI single into centerfield to extend the lead out to 4-1.
  • Following a pitching change for the Jags, Camden Colman would plate Josh Ford to with an RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.
  • Both teams would go down in order over the next two innings, and scoreless over the four.
  • The Panthers threatened to score again in the bottom of the sixth inning with the bases loaded and one out. A sacrifice fly to deep centerfield by N. Burke would extend the lead to 6-1.
  • The Jags would put together a string of runs in the top of the seventh inning. Three straight two-out singles would plate three runs and cut the deficit down to two, 6-4.
  • Both teams would not advance a runner past first base until the top of the ninth. Augusta led off the inning with back-to-back singles, but Noah Steckley would lock in on the mound for Tech and strike out the next batter.
  • Steckley would get the next two hitters to pop out to the infield to secure the win for the Panthers, 6-4, and take the series from the Jags.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 4-2 all-time against Augusta.
  • Noah Steckley picked up his first save of the season, shutting the door in the ninth inning.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will begin Sunshine State Conference (SSC) play next weekend from Friday, Feb. 23 to Sunday, Feb. 25 with a three-game series against Nova Southeastern. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field in Melbourne, Fla.
