Tech Earns Second Straight Road Win Against Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's basketball team made it two road wins in a row on Saturday night after the Panthers defeated Barry, 72-62, in Miami Shores. All five starters reached double-digit scoring and Niall Harris recorded a double-double.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 72, Barry 62

FIRST HALF:
  • The teams began the game trading baskets and possession over the first few minutes. Two free throws from Niall Harris and a layup by Elias Martin put Tech ahead, 8-4, going into the first media timeout of the game.
  • Barry would come out of the timeout and rattle off an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to go up 12-8.
  • The back-and-forth would continue with the teams sharing scores at 12-12 and 16-16. With just under 10 minutes left in the half, Max Polk made a driving layup to put the Panthers up 18-17.
  • The Bucs would rip off a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 31-20 lead with 4:04 on the clock.
  • The teams would exchange a few more baskets over the closing minutes of the half and Barry would take a 33-25 lead into halftime.
 
SECOND HALF:
  • Tech would open the second half with a quick 5-2 run from a Harris triple and two free throws from David McCullough to bring the lead down to 35-30 just two minutes into the half.
  • Down six, 41-35, Chase Thompson knocked down a jumper for the Panthers that sparked an 11-2 run to retake the lead, 44-43, with 10 minutes left to play.
  • Barry would come back with an 8-0 run to take a 51-44 lead with 8:39 on the clock.
  • Back-to-back three-point jumpers by Rahsaan Edwards brought Tech back within one, 51-50 at the 6:40 mark.
  • Just a minute later, McCullough would make three straight baskets to put the Panthers up 59-54.
  • Four made free throws by James Montgomery brought the Bucs back within one, 59-58, but three-straight treys, one from Thompson and two from Edwards, put Tech back up 68-58 with 1:36 to play.
  • Both teams would add more points at the charity stripe over the final minute and a half to give the game its final score of 72-62.
 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Niall Harris recorded his second double-double in a row, and third this season, after he scored 13 points and hauled in 14 rebounds. He also added five assists and three steals to his line.
  • David McCullough led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points. He also totaled four rebounds, three blocks, and two steals.
  • Elias Martin scored 10 points and grabbed eight boards. He also totaled a career-high six blocks.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 31-46 all-time against Barry, including 11-27 on the road in Miami Shores.
  • Tech has now won five straight matchups against the Bucs.
  • Elias Martin has recorded at least two blocks in 17 out of 23 games this season, including the last 15 games in a row.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will next play on Wednesday, Feb. 21 when the Panthers travel to Florida Southern for a midweek SSC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.
