Panthers Drop Final Game of Series to NSU

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech baseball team went into game three of its weekend Sunshine State Conference (SSC) series looking to take the series from Nova Southeastern, but fell 10-3 to the Sharks.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 3, NSU 10
Records: Florida Tech (7-7, 1-2 SSC), NSU (7-6, 2-1 SSC)
Location: Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field | Melbourne, Fla.
 
STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Sharks would get on the board in the top of the first inning after a throwing error allowed Henry Wallen to scamper across the plate. The Panthers would convert a double play to get out of the inning.
  • Tech would answer right back in the bottom half of the frame after Marshall Burke singled home Jack Matousek to knot the game at 1-1.
  • In the top of the second, a bases-loaded fielder's choice followed by another Panther error allowed two runs to cross and give NSU a 3-1 lead.
  • A few batters later, a single by Wallen would bring home two more Sharks to go up 5-1.
  • Roman Samson would club a solo home run in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 5-2.
  • After a scoreless third inning, a sacrifice fly from Wallen would push NSU's lead to 6-2 in the top of the fourth.
  • In the top of the fifth inning a wild pitch from Tech would allow another Shark to come home and extend the lead to 7-2.
  • NSU continued to tack on runs in the sixth inning. A two-RBI single by Bryan Loriga made it a 9-2 game. The Sharks would scrape another run across after a no-out, bases-loaded double was converted by Tech.
  • Both teams would not allow a runner past second bases until the bottom of the eighth inning. Noah Burke drew a walk to lead off the inning for the Panthers. Two batters later, Tate Hansen would single Burke home to make it a 10-3 game.
  • Both pitchers would toss a perfect ninth inning to give the game its final score of 10-3.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Florida Tech moves to 54-58 all-time against NSU, including 30-23 all-time at home in Melbourne.
  • The Sharks have now won nine of the past 11 series against the Panthers, dating back to 2013.
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will travel to No. 22 Lynn for a weekend Sunshine State Conference series. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1 in Boca Raton, Fla.
