Tech Homers Twice to Take Series Opener Against Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Panthers hit the road on Friday night to open the series against Saint Leo. Tech got off to a quick start, posting back-to-back home runs in the top of the first. The Panther defense held strong in the end to earn the 5-2 win over the Lions.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Florida Tech got off to a quick start, scoring three in the top of the first.
  • A Kelly McLaughlin single followed by a walk from Jolie Miracle put two on base, with both runners advancing a base on a wild pitch.
  • Katie Houge fouled out to left field and sent McLaughlin home.
  • Back-to-Back home runs by Mya Ogbodiewgu and Miranda Schwartz made it 4-0.
  • Alex Hendrian retired the first six Saint Leo batters.
  • In the top of the fourth, two walks and a hit by pitch sandwiched in between would load the bases for Tech.
  • Celeste Casillas recorded a sacrifice flyout to drive in  Ogbodiewgu.
  • Saint Leo answered by in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two runs.
  • With two on base off a hit by pitch and a Panther error, Briana Neal singled but an error on the fielding sent two runner's home.
  • On the next at-bat, the Panther defense tagged Neal out at home.
  • Alex Hendrian retired seven of the final 11 batters to earn the victory.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers' all-time series with Saint Leo now stands at 53-79-1.
  • Miranda Schwartz recorded her third home run of the season, while Mya Ogbodiegu recorded her fourth.
  • Jolie Miracle extended her on-base streak to 15 games.
  • Alex Hendrian improved to 11-6 after throwing her NCAA-leading 16th complete game of the season.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech returns to action Saturday, March 16 to close out the series against Saint Leo in a double header. First pitch is set for noon.
