Final: Florida Tech 3, Rollins 7
Records: Florida Tech (12-16, 5-7 SSC), Rollins (16-9, 8-4 SSC)
Location: Alfond Stadium | Winter Park, Fla.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- After a scoreless first, the Tars put up the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. With runners on the corners and no outs, Jimmy Thies grounded in a double play that allowed a run to come across to give Rollins an early 1-0 lead.
- Tech looked to respond quickly in the top of the third inning. Gavin McGowan led off with a nine-pitch walk and advanced to second following a sacrifice bunt by Gabe Garrett.
- Now with two outs, Marshall Burke singled up the middle to put runners on first and third, but a tremendous diving play up the middle by the Tars' second basemen retired Jack Matousek in the next at-bat to keep the Panthers off the scoreboard.
- Rollins added another run in the bottom of the third to go up 2-0.
- Noah Burke put himself in scoring position with a one-out double in the top of the fourth for Tech. However, he would be stranded there after the next two Panthers were retired.
- Rollins tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and a Panther error to go up 6-0.
- After a scoreless fifth, Tech loaded the bases with no outs after a double from Carlos Guzman and back-to-back hit-by-pitches to N. Burke and Brett Kelly. Tate Hansen sent a single through the left side of the infield to plate Guzman and put Tech on the board.
- Two batters later, a fielder's choice brought home N. Burke to make it a 6-2 game.
- The Tars got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch with a runner on third to go up 7-2.
- The Panthers threatened in the top of the eighth after a single from Cole Patrick loaded the bases with one out. But Rollins would turn a double play in the middle to get out of the jam unscathed.
- Ridge Skarbek took the mound for Tech in the bottom of the eighth and struck out the side to keep the Tars at bay.
- Jason Blackstone worked a full count walk to begin the top of the ninth. Two batters later, a double from Matousek moved Blackstone over to third, and a single from Guzman brought Blackstone home to make it a 7-3 game.
