MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech softball welcomed Wilmington (Del.) to Nancy Bottge Field on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The Panthers and Wildcats split the doubleheader, with the Panther bats coming alive in game two.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
GAME ONE:
Final: Florida Tech 1, #20 Wilmington (Del.) 2

STATS OF THE GAME:
- After four scoreless innings, Tech took the lead, scoring one run. With two outs, Miranda Schwartz doubled to center field.
- Mya Ogbodiegwu followed with another double, sending Schwartz home. Due to an obstruction by the WU catch, Schwartz was safe at the plate.
- Alex Hendrian retired the next three WU batters to keep the 1-0 lead.
- Samantha Shortal led off in the bottom of the fifth with a walk but was then caught stealing.
- The Wildcats retired the next two batters to end the inning.
- In the top of the sixth, Cassidy Zelano reached first on a fielding error by the Panthers.
- Taylor Gillis sent one to right center to get the tying and go-ahead run on base.
- Lexi Moore's sacrifice bunt advanced the two runs before a ground out allowed Zelano to score to tie it up 1-1.
- With two outs, the next batter singled to score Gillis and take the lead.
- The Panthers went three up, three down in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers got the tying run in scoring position but were unable to capitalize.
- Ella Niles, Miranda Schwartz, Mya Ogbodiewgu, and Samantha Shortal each tallied one hit.
- Alex Hendrian threw a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits and one walk, while striking out two.
GAME TWO:

STATS OF THE GAME:
- WU scored early as Lexi Moore reached first on a single, stole second, and was sent home on a Sarah Freeman blast to center field.
- The Panthers answered back scoring three in the bottom of the first.
- Ella Niles singled to third, beating out the throw. Kelly McLaughlin followed with a single to left field.
- A Jolie Miracle single to center field sent Niles home and McLaughlin to third.
- Next up Katie Hogue was hit by a pitch, loading the bases.
- Mya Ogbodiewgu blasted one to right center, scoring McLaughlin and Miracle for the lead.
- WU got two in scoring position in the top of the second, but Ella Niles got out of trouble forcing a ground out and a pop up.
- The Panthers scored three more in the bottom of the second to take a comfortable 6-1 lead.
- Celeste Casillas kickstarted the Panthers with a single to right center before advancing to second on a wild pitch.
- Niles was then walked, before McLaughlin flied out and advance Casillas to third.
- Hogue came up with a double to right center sending both Casillas and Niles home.
- A Wildcats field error allowed Hogue to score, giving Tech a 6-1 lead after two.
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers run-ruled the Wildcats as Schwartz hit a 3-run homer over the wall.
- Katie Hogue, Jillian Moeller, and Celeste Casillas each went 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Ella Niles got the win in the circle throwing six innings and allowing just one run on four hits, one walk, and one strikeout.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Panthers all-time series record against Wilmington now stands at 8-2.
- This was the fifth meeting between the teams in six seasons.
- Miranda Schwartz's homerun in game two was her second of the season.
- Ella Niles and Mya Ogbodiewgu each extend their hitting streak to five.
- Jolie Miracle has a seven-game on-base streak.
UP NEXT: The Panthers are back at Nancy Bottge Field on Wednesday, March 6 to welcome Tiffin (Ohio) in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
