MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech softball drops both doubleheader games to Tampa with scores of 9-4 and 13-4. The team showed a fight in both games but could not close the gap.
GAME ONE:

Final: Florida Tech 4, Tampa 9
Records: Florida Tech (24-18, 13-13 SSC) | Tampa (34-6, 16-4 SSC)

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Despite two outs to the first two batters, Tampa's Lexi Chevalier singled setting up a Camryn Wineinger two-run bomb to center.
- Florida Tech responded in the bottom of the first inning as Celeste Casillas doubled to the left field fence, and Katie Hogue drilled a ball up the middle to bring her home.
- Kinnah Kreidler for the Spartans walked to begin the second. The next two Tampa batters moved her two third with balls in play. The Spartans proceed to knock two singles and a double to go up 5-1.
- Wineinger hit her second home run of the game in the top of the third, putting the Spartans up 6-1.
- Before the end of the inning, Mariah Galhouse doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.
- The Panthers grabbed two hits in the second and third; however, they could not push a run across the plate.
- Tampa's offense continued to roll, loading the bases in the fourth. But Alex Hendrian worked out of the jam with two pop outs.
- After two straight no-score innings for Tampa, Florida Tech drew closer in the fifth. Ella Niles took first on a bunt single, and Casillas doubled, scoring her teammate. Casillas also scored later by a Jolie Miracle sacrifice fly.
- Tampa added one run each in the sixth and seventh innings, increasing their lead to 9-3. Devillier's dinger in the seventh was one of those runs/
- Florida Tech fought back as Dawn Pawlak grabbed a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh. A Casillas single and a Miracle walk later, the bases were loaded with one out. An error by the Tampa shortstop allowed Pawlak to cross home plate.
- However, the Panthers fell short with a final pop out to end the game.
GAME TWO:

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Two runners get on to start the game for Tampa, but Ella Niles induces a groundball to keep the Spartans at bay.
- Mariah Galhouse, the Tampa pitcher, kept the game scoreless, sitting down the Panthers' first three batters in the first.
- Katie Hogue registered the Panthers' first hit with a ball grounded up the middle in the bottom of the second inning.
- The Spartans walked to start the third, then moved a runner to second on a sacrifice bunt. Camryn Chevalier doubled to center, looking to earn an RBI, but Samantha Shortal tossed it to Casillas, who threw a beam to Miracle to make the tag at home.
- However, Tampa would still take the lead on the next pitch with a Wineinger single.
- Later in the inning, Devilliers hit a ball into the left-field corner to extend Tampa's lead to 3-0.
- Florida Tech called to the bullpen in the fourth. Lexi Lueger, in her fourth appearance, earned an out.
- The Spartan offense quickly figured out how to load the bases with a double, hit-by-pitch, and a walk. Galhouse then crushed a grand slam to center, extending the lead to 7-0. Then Kinnah Kreidler copied her teammate with a solo shot.
- This forced Florida Tech to change pitchers again, this time to senior Pawlak, who struck out the final batter in the top of the fourth.
- In the bottom fourth, Miracle and Mya Obediewgu single but the Panther offense could not get a run across.
- Since Tampa was up 9-0 in the fifth, the Panthers were determined to keep the game alive, putting up four runs in the bottom. Casillas doubled for 2 RBI, and Katie Hogue singled Casillas home.
- Unfortunately, the Spartans found home plate four more times in the final two innings, including hitting one more home run.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
- Casillas tallied five hits in eight at-bats, three RBIs, and three doubles. For the first time this season, she recorded three hits in Game One.
- Hendrian pitched her 22nd complete game to lead the nation at all levels of softball. She needs one more to have tied the 10th most in a season by a Panther.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Panthers now move to an all-time 52-77 against Tampa.
- Spartans have won the past seven series between the teams (18-3 over that span), with the Panthers' last series victory coming on February 19-20, 2016.
- Tech is 27-36 at home vs. Tampa all-time.
