Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Matt Padeway

Panthers Drop Road Match to Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team battled it out with No. 3 Lenoir-Rhyne, but fell to the Bears by a score of 3-2.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • The Bears got on the board first with a goal in just the first minute of the match.
  • Both teams battled it out for possession over the next 35 minutes. Tech was able to put six shots on target but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • A Panther foul in the box awarded LR a penalty. The Bears converted to go up 2-0 in the 38th minute.
  • Coming out of halftime, the momentum swung in favor of the Panthers. Daniela Tobon sent a pass up to Lauryn Wood, who beat the keeper one-on-one to bring the lead down to 2-1 in the 51st minute.
  • 13 minutes later, Wood broke away from the defense and ripped a shot through the keeper's block attempt to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • In the 70th minute, Marta Llopis took a shot at the goal from just outside the box for Tech, but her shot rang off the crossbar, and the game remained tied.
  • After some more back-and-forth for possession, LR broke away and took a shot into the top right corner that put them back on top 3-2 with just over 15 minutes left to play.
  • The Panthers continued to apply pressure to try and tie the game again, but only managed one more shot in the final 10 minutes and the game ended with a final score of 3-2.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Florida Tech moves to 3-1-4 all-time against LR. Including a 2-1 record on the road against the Bears.
  • Lauryn Wood scored her first two goals of the season.
 
UP NEXT: The Panthers will continue the road trip and head back down to the Sunshine State to take on Nova Southeastern in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Davie, Fla.
