Eleven Different Panthers Score But Fall to Mocs

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The women's basketball team saw eleven different Panthers score at least one point. However, it was not enough to beat Florida Southern. The Mocs defeated the Panthers 88-54.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Jessica Lange batted an offensive rebound to Nadine Johnson, who drained a mid-range jumper for the game's first points.
  • Three three-pointers by Florida Southern pushed them ahead 15-4. However, Sarah Liberatore hit her own from beyond the arch to cut the deficit with five minutes remaining in the quarter.
  • Remingtyn Smith made her presence felt on the offensive boards, grabbing her third and dishing it to Deirdre Miller for a basket. The Panthers were down 27-12 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Mikayla took over the second quarter. First, she drove to the basket for the layup and one free throw, which she made.
  • Morin drained a pull-up jumper a few seconds later, having the Panthers down 29-17.
  • Tai Roberts made the game a 10-point difference with a layup and a jumper while getting help from the defense, getting multiple turnovers.
  • The Mocs' 7-0 run was halted by a pair of free throws by Jessica Lange and Kyandra Poitier with under three minutes left in the half.
  • Florida Southern hit a couple more three-pointers to end the half with a 46-28 advantage.
THIRD QUARTER:
  • Emily Acampora took an inbound pass up the left sideline, planted her feet, and drilled a shot from deep.
  • Over three minutes into the quarter, Roberts stepped in front of a Florida Southern passed and had nobody standing in her way for a layup.
  • In the next possession, Smith nailed a corner three off a Roberts' assist and seconds later stole the ball from the Mocs on defense.
  • Heading into the final quarter, the Panthers were down 74-43.
 FOURTH QUARTER:
  •  McKenzie Winder and Morin made shots two minutes into the quarter on back-to-back possessions.
  • After a Florida Southern steal, Johnson denied the basket by swatting a layup attempt.
  • After a timeout, Liberatore hit two free throws, and then Acampora made a play on defense to regain offensive possession. Acampora went straight to the basket for a field goal.
  • The junior would again take the ball away from the Mocs under five minutes.
  • Unfortunately, the Panthers could not close the gap and lost 88-54.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Tai Roberts led Tech in scoring with 10 points also grabbing four rebounds and two steals
  • Remingtyn Smith tied her career high in rebounds with six.
  • Mikayla Morin recorded her second career steal.
  • The Panthers had 21 offensive rebounds compared to the Mocs' 11.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers are 40-56 against the Mocs.
