A Flat Second Half Leads to the Panther’s Largest Home Loss of the Season

MELBOURNE, FLA. – The Panthers trailed by just 10 at the break and would close the gap to single digits before going ice cold in the second half leading to a 37-point loss at home to the Fighting Knights.

FINAL: Florida Tech 60, Lynn 97
Records: Florida Tech (3-12, 0-7 SSC) Lynn (9-4, 4-3 SSC)

STATS OF THE MATCH:

First Half:
  • Donovan Brown got the night started for the Panthers with an unassisted lay-in at the rim as Tech would be down in this contest early, 2-6.
  • The lead would climb to nine points (6-15) for the Fighting Knights before a timely Xavier Ford-Belton swat would change the early momentum for Tech.
  • Tech would hold the Fighting Knights scoreless over the next two minutes as Brown and Max Polk would then lead the charge to get back in the game scoring a combined 14 points, 17-20.
  • Brown and Polk would continue to lead the Panthers as Ford-Belton, Marko Malekinusic, and Logan Allen each helped in the effort with a basket, 32-33.
  • Unfortunately for Tech, late breaks in the defense would have them face a 10-point deficit at halftime, 36-46.
  • Brown with 15 points and Polk with 12 points would lead Tech in this half as the team shot just over 50% from the field.

Second Half:
  • Can Kaan Turgut would get the second half underway for the Panthers with four straight points as Tech would cut the lead to just six, 40-46.
  • Just when Tech seemed to be back in the game, the Fighting Knights would respond with a devastating (4-22) run and that would essentially wrap things up, 44-68.
  • This impactful run from Lynn along with the Panther's best defender Ford-Belton fouling out would lead to a huge deficit for the Panthers mid-way through the second half.
  • At this mark, everything the Panthers did was cosmetic as Polk would go scoreless in the second half and just three players outside of Brown for Tech would register a basket.
  • Tech would suffer their largest home loss of the season to Lynn, 60-97.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Donovan Brown finished with a game-high 24 points and a team-high six rebounds.

  • Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Lynn holds a 12-8 advantage in the series.
