Tech Dominates Saint Leo 5-0 in SSC Victory

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team dominated its way to a 5-0 Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo on Wednesday, Oct. 1. With the win, Florida Tech moves to 5-1-3 (2-0-2 SSC) while Saint Leo falls to 1-5-1 (0-2-1 SSC).

GAME NOTES
  • Florida Tech tallied the first shot of the match in the 5th minute as Mia Otero missed top left.
  • After a corner kick, Rio Naganawa just missed high of the Saint Leo goal.
  • Naganawa came back in the 18th minute and earned her first goal of the year as she was assisted by EllinorBlaasternes.
  • Saint Leo tallied their first save in the 24th minute off a shot from Rio Naganawa.
  • Only one more shot was fired from then on. The Lions notched a shot in the 37th minute to no avail.
  • The Panthers came out hot out of half as Rebecca Storr found the back of the net for the third time this season to put the Panthers ahead 2-0.
  • Three minutes later, Tech scored again, this time Mia Otero in the 51st minute off a pass from Lauryn Wood.
  • Otero and Wood would connect again in the 52nd minute for Otero's second goal of the match and 2025 season.
  • Wood placed a shot on goal in the 57th minute but it was saved by the Lions goalkeeper.
  • In the 63rd minute, Rio Naganawa fired the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the match.
  • Tech had a chance to extend their 5-0 lead with shots from Nina Santiago, Savannah Oxley and Sara Batchadji in the 66th and 67th minute, but two missed high while the third was saved by Saint Leo.
  • Anae Malbete just missed her first goal of the season in the 76th minute but her shot just nicked the left woodwork to deny her goal.
  • The Panthers had two last shots in the 89th and 90th minute but neither were able to hit the back of the net.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Rio Naganawa and Mia Otero both notched multi-goal matches while also scoring their first goals of the season.
  • Kaitlin Sinkler and Mette Brandes combined for a clean sheet while Sinkler picked up one save.
  • Tech out-shot Saint Leo 16-4.
  • This is the Panthers second time this season scoring five goals (9/4/25 vs. AUM).
  • Tech had double-digit points for the second match this season (13).
  • Lauryn Wood had the first multi-assist match of her career.
