Strong Defense Wasn’t Enough Against the Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Florida Tech's women's basketball team held Palm Beach Atlantic to under 60 points and just 36% shooting, but the Panthers ultimately came up short in a 57–53 loss on Saturday.

FIRST QUARTER:
  • The Panthers opened strong, scoring the first 10 points of the game with five different players contributing.
  • Back-to-back three-point possessions by the Sailfish cut the lead to 10–6.
  • Tai Roberts added four points in the quarter, knocking down a pair of free throws to close out the first 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER:
  • The Sailfish opened the second quarter with back-to-back layups, pulling even at 14–14 just two minutes in.
  • Remingtyn Smith put the Panthers back in front with the team's first three-pointer of the game.
  • On the next possession, Roberts joined in by knocking down her first three of the season.
  • Moments later, Elif Bayrak sprinted the length of the floor for a fast-break layup, pushing the lead to 24–18.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic responded with seven straight points to take a 25–24 advantage into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER:
  • Roberts and Bayrak came out of halftime energized, as Roberts finished a layup and Bayrak drilled a three to reclaim a 29–25 lead.
  • After the Sailfish briefly moved back in front, Bayrak answered with another deep shot, and Smith followed with one of her own.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic tightened up defensively to close the quarter, forcing four steals and using a 12–0 run to end the third.
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Palm Beach Atlantic continued its momentum into the fourth quarter, adding 11 more points to extend its run.
  • Despite trailing 53–35, the Panthers refused to fold, responding with a 12–0 surge to cut the deficit to six. The run was fueled by two clutch jumpers from Mikayla Morin and a corner three from Sydney Logsdon.
  • After a missed Sailfish free throw, Smith drew a foul on the other end, sinking the first shot. The miss on her second attempt was corralled by the Panthers, setting up a Roberts three-pointer.
  • Following another 1-for-2 trip at the charity stripe by PBA, Roberts hit a tough jumper to pull Tech within 55–53.
  • Tech was forced to foul again, and this time the Sailfish converted both free throws, sealing the Panthers' 57–53 loss 
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Tai Roberts was the team points leader, dropping 17 and grabbing seven boards.
  • Remingtyn Smith was one point away from a double-double, scoring nine points and hauling in a career-high 10 rebounds.
  • Roberts, Smith, and Elif Bayrak each made two three-pointers

  • The Panthers are 30-12 all-time against the Sailfish and 11-8 all-time at Palm Beach Atlantic
