Tech Splits Opening Day with Spring Hill

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Panthers were narrowly defeated in game one after Spring Hill scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and then went on to win game two confidently after scoring two runs in the sixth.

STATS OF THE GAME ONE:
  • he Panthers started strong with a two-run triple by Brett Kelly in the first inning, bringing in Noah Burke and BJ Graham.
  • The Badgers countered with a three-run homer in the fourth inning, followed by a solo home run in the fifth, taking a 2-5 lead.
  • In the sixth inning, Tech closed the gap with three runs.
  • To start, Brett Kelly was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded earning an RBI when N. Burke advanced to second, Graham advanced to third and Marshall Burke scored.
  • Anthony Fimiano then singled up the middle receiving an RBI as Kelly advanced to second, N. Burke advanced to third and Graham scored
  • After a pitching change from the Badgers, with two outs, Adrian Dominguez walked, receiving an RBI as Fimiano advanced to second, Kelly advanced to third and N. Burke scored, tying the game at 5-5.
  • Spring Hill regained the lead in the seventh inning, scoring two runs, which the Panthers couldn't overcome despite adding one more run in the eighth.
  • Kelly led the Panthers with three RBIs, while Burke and Graham each contributed two runs.
  • Jacob Pino got the start in the circle for the Panthers lasting 4.2 innings giving up six hits and five runs.
  • Trenten Anderson came in for relief lasting 3.1 innings, giving up four hits, two runs, and was credited with the loss.
 
STATS OF THE GAME TWO:
  • The Panthers trailed 3-0 after two innings due to a combination of timely hitting and a defensive error.
  • Tech rallied in the fifth inning, scoring four runs as Jaden Hill's RBI single initiated the comeback, followed by a two-run double from Graham, capitalizing on a fielding error by Spring Hill.
  • In the sixth inning, the Panthers extended their lead with an RBI single by Pedro Figueroa, and a sacrifice fly by Burke bringing the score to 6-3.
  • Tech's defense tightened, committing only one error, and supported their pitchers effectively.
  • Josh Beck got the start and threw 1.2 innings striking out two, giving up one hit and three runs, while Ethan Stephens threw in relief lasting three innings striking out four and giving up one run.
  • With the game needing a close, Ridge Skarbek earned the win, delivering a solid performance over 2.1 innings pitched giving up zero runs and striking out one batter.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • All-time vs. Spring Hill: 11-6
  • This is the Panthers' first trip to Mobile since February 16-17, 2019. They are now 5-3 all-time at Spring Hill.
  • Over the past 20 seasons, Tech is 17-3 in season-opening series and had won each of their past four.
