Women’s Basketball Drops Home Contest to Barry

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The women's basketball team had a tight game going into the second but would fall to Barry 88-58. Despite having fewer rebounds than the Buccaneers, the Panthers outscored them in second-chance points.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Barry got off an early 7-0 lead, but Tai Roberts ended the Buccaneer's run with an 8-foot turnaround jumper. In the next possession, Dalma Ehmann forced a foul for a made free throw.
  • After a Barry turnover, Mikayla Morin pushed a defender back for a layup off the glass as the Panthers cut their deficit to two points.
  • The Buccaneers bounced back with a 6-0 run before the media timeout.
  • Morin hit a baseline jumper, and then Emily Acampora grabbed the ball from a Barry player.
  • Nadine Johnson drove for a layup, immediately transitioning to defense for a steal.
  • However, the Panthers were down 22-15 after 10 minutes played.
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Sarah Liberatore got things going to start the second, dropping in a layup, making the game a five-point difference. On the defensive end, Jessica Lange swatted a ball away from the hoop.
  • Neither offense could score for about two minutes until Ehmann saw more action, putting in two tough layups and having Tech down just 23-21.
  • Thirty seconds later, Ehman made her presence known again in the paint with another layup for her sixth point in less than a minute.
  • At 30-27, Barry went on an 8-3 stretch to end the half up 38-30.
 THIRD QUARTER:
  • The Buccaneers increased their lead to 50-34
  • Liberatore had a solid third quarter, recording five points, four of which occurred about halfway through the third.
  • Barry went into the fourth, leading 66-38.
 FOURTH QUARTER:
  •  Ehmann continued to play well, adding her second block and four more points in the first three minutes of the quarter.
  • Following the media timeout, down 82-51, Johnson hauled in a defensive rebound and finished at the rim, creating a three-point play when she made the free throw.
  • Defensively, Remingtyn Smith stole the ball twice, and Deirdre Miller grabbed another late in the game, helping the offense score a few more points before it was all wrapped up.
  • The Panthers fell to the Buccaneers
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Dalma Ehmann recorded a team-high 12 points. It marks the fifth double-digit scoring game of the season and the second consecutive. Ehmann also had two rebounds and two blocks
  • Mikayla Morin also tallied double figures with ten points and five rebounds
  • Remingtyn Smith swiped three steals while also grabbing four rebounds. Nadine Johnson also registered three steals.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers are 46-38 against Barry all-time.
  • Tech is 24-15 all-time at home vs. Barry, with their last win against the Buccaneers being a 76-66 victory at Clemente on February 13, 2021. Their previous home win vs. Barry in front of fans was a 77-61 triumph on February 2, 2019.
