BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Tech softball team finds a way to win, scoring three runs in the final inning for the 4-3 victory over Lynn. The Panthers capitalized on some errors from the Fighting Knights with two bunt singles and a sacrifice fly.
STATS OF THE GAME:
Final: Florida Tech 4, Lynn 3
Records: Florida Tech (17-12, 5-5 SSC) | Lynn (14-13, 0-7 SSC)
Location: Lynn Softball Field | Boca Raton, Fla.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Tech reached base and got a runner in scoring position but did not score in the first inning.
- Alex Hendrian, in the circle for the Panthers, allowed a lead-off single and steal but shut down the two batters and created a ground ball, leading to tagging out the runner at home.
- Haley Rider walked and made it third on a sacrifice bunt and fielding error. However, Lynn's catcher caught her off the base at third, helping the Knights go unscathed in the second.
- Lynn was first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, plating two runs. A bunt single and steal set up back-to-back RBI singles to the outfield. The Fighting Knights grabbed the 2-0 lead.
- Both teams did not record a hit in the fifth, as the score remained at 2-0.
- Needing to put something together offensively, the Panthers answered the call in the fifth. Dani Sigel bunt singled, moving a runner to second in the process. After sliding one more based on a groundout, Ella Niles sliced a ball up the middle, driving in a run.
- The Knights had nothing going in the bottom of the fifth but responded in the sixth. An Onnalee Floriano single through the left side and error had her at third with zero outs. The next batters grounded out for a sacrifice RBI and again a two-run lead for Lynn.
- The Panthers have a knack for finding a way to win all in games, and they did so again. The first batter got on base via catcher's interference, and Malaya Nelson poked one through the right side, creating a great opportunity for Tech.
- Niles's speed forced Lynn's first baseman to miss a throw, which gave the Panthers a run. Chloe Fariello and Celeste Casillas placed stellar bunt singles, bringing home the tying run. Miranda Schwartz placed the cherry on top, smashing a ball deep enough to score the runner from third. Tech took the 4-3 lead in the seventh.
- Hendrian produced three straight ground balls to end the game. Casillas made a tremendous play on the final ball, securing the victory.
