Panthers Suffer Series Loss 2-1 Against Lynn

Melbourne, Fla. – The Panthers fought hard but came up short in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Lynn, dropping the series 2-1. Despite late-inning rallies in both matchups, Tech couldn't complete the comeback, falling 7-6 in game one and 8-5 in game two at Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field.


GAME ONE:

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • A solo home run from the Fighting Knights put Lynn on the board first in this one taking an earlier 1-0 lead.
  • After a scoreless inning from both sides, Tech would tie the game at 1-1 via a Brett Kelly double bringing home Conner Wiggins.
  • Lynn regained the lead at the top of the fourth inning with three runs via a triple that brought in one run, followed by a two-run homer, 4-1.
  • The Fighting Knights then added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning when a double to left field brought in one run, 5-1.
  • The Panthers got their offense firing in the bottom of the seventh scoring four runs to tie the ball game.
  • Akhil Nimmala doubled to left center bringing home Gabe Garrett, Kelly doubled to right center bringing home Nimmala, Pedro Figueroa hit an SAC fly bringing home Wiggins, and Cole Patrick reached first base as he induced a fielder choice allowing Kelly to reach home in the process.
  • Tech and the Fighting Knights now tied at 5-5 heading into the top of the eighth inning.
  • Lynn wasted no time taking the lead back with two runs, a SAC fly bringing home one and a single bringing in the second, 7-5.
  • Entering the bottom of the ninth, with no outs and no one on the bases, Wiggins crushed a solo home run cutting the deficit to just one, 7-6.
  • The Panthers couldn't manage to bring in an additional run to tie and suffered the loss to Lynn.
  • Aidan Lenzen got the start on the mound and took the loss for the Panthers lasting six and two-thirds innings giving up seven hits, and five runs while walking one and striking out eight.
  • Payton McIntosh & Trenten Anderson took the mound in relief for the Panthers. McIntosh lasted one-third of an inning giving up one hit, and zero runs while walking one and striking out zero. Anderson finished the game's final two innings giving up two hits, and zero runs while walking zero and striking out zero.
 
Notable Panthers:
  • Conner Wiggins registered his first collegiate home run and led the game in runs with three
  • Brett Kelly led the game in hits with three and Tech in RBIs with two.
  • Gabe Garrett and Wiggins each collected two hits.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Panthers struck first in this one as Pedro Figueroa went yard on his first at-bat to give Tech the 1-0 lead early.
  • Lynn then tied the game with a solo homer in the top of the second.
  • Marshall Burke matched Figueroa by going yard in the bottom of the second to put Tech's lead back up to one, to 2-1.
  • Lynn took their first lead in the game in the top of the third inning as a fielder's choice allowed a run to score and a throwing error from the Panthers allowed the second score in the inning, 3-2.
  • After a scoreless bottom third inning from the Panthers, a two-run homer from the Fighting Knights increased their lead to 5-2.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Fighting Knights added one more score as the result of a fielder's choice, 6-2.
  • Two more runs from the Fighting Knights built their largest lead of the day up to 8-2.
  • Tech responded in the bottom of the eighth inning with three runs putting the Fighting Knights on their heels.
  • Cole Patrick reached first on an error that also allowed Brett Kelly to reach home followed by a Gabe Garrett single up the middle driving in M. Burke and Patrick, giving the Panthers life, trailing 8-5.
  • The Panthers would fail to score again and take the game two loss to Lynn, ultimately losing the series 2-1.
  • Sean Means got the start on the mound and took the loss for the Panthers lasting three and two-thirds innings giving up seven hits, and five runs while walking zero, and striking out six.
  • Brayden DiCerb, Ridge Skarbek, and Bryson Walker took the mound in relief for the Panthers.
  • DiCerb lasted two and one-third of an inning giving up four hits, and three runs while walking one and striking out two.
  • Skarbek lasted two innings giving up one hit, and zero runs while walking zero and striking out three.
  • Walker finished the game's last inning giving up zero hits, and zero runs while walking zero and striking out one.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Pedro Figueroa registered his first home run of the season while Marshall Burke collected his third of the season.
  • M. Burke and Gabe Garrett each had one stolen base.
  • Brett Kelly and Garrett tied for Tech's lead in hits each with two while Garrett had a team-high two RBIs.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • All-time vs. Lynn: 53-52
  • Since the start of 2015, Florida Tech holds a now 22-10 advantage in the series, with the Panthers having won nine of 16 since the start of 2021.
  • Tech is 32-23 all-time at home against Lynn, including a now 16-5 mark since 2013.
