Panthers Claim Series Win 2-1 Over No. 21 Rollins

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Despite a solid effort at the plate from Jaden Hill and Marshall Burke, Tech fell 10-1 to No. 21 Rollins in the series finale. The Panthers secured a series win over the Tars but were unable to complete the sweep as Rollins capitalized on early scoring opportunities and defensive miscues.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • The Tars started this matchup off with three runs in the top of the first via a fielding error that brought in one run followed by a two-run single for Rollins giving them the lead 3-0.
  • Rollins added to their score total in the top of the second with a solo home run, 4-0.
  • The Panthers got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the second when Braden Moon doubled bringing home Roman Samson and almost Marshall Burke, but M. Burke would be tagged out in the process of sliding home, 4-1.
  • It would be all Tars through the midway point as in the top of the sixth two more runs were added each from a single increasing the Rollins lead to 6-1.
  • The Tars controlled the game from this point and added in two more runs in the eighth inning via a double and a fielding error from the Panthers and two more runs in the top of the ninth via a double and a flyout, securing their win, 10-1.
  • Aidan Lenzen took the loss for the Panthers after lasting seven innings, giving up 11 hits and six runs while walking one and striking out three.
  • Ryan Spitzer and Ridge Skarbek took the mound in relief for the Panthers. Spitzer lasted one inning, giving up one hit, and two runs while walking one and striking one. Skarbek finished the game's final inning giving up one hit and two runs while walking two and striking out one.

  • Marshall Burke achieved the 100th hit for his career with his first at-bat, he is now the second-fastest Panther to achieve 100 or more hits over their true freshman and sophomore seasons since Daniel Szpik, who had 127 over the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
