Combined No-Hitter and Explosive Offense Leads to Sweep Over No. 11 Wilmington.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – In four days, the Florida Tech softball team has earned three ranked victories after dominating No. 11 Wilmington in a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday night. A combined no-hitter between Alex Hendrian and Kelsey Hahn leads the Panthers to a 5-0 Game One victory. The second game saw great pitching but also an explosion of offense in a 14-2 beating.

GAME ONE:
STATS OF THE GAME:
Final: Florida Tech 5, No. 11 Wilmington 0
Records: Florida Tech (9-12, 4-5 SSC) | Wilmington (6-5, 0-0 CACC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Tech's incredible pitching started with Hendrian in the circle, shutting down the first three batters and adding a strikeout.
  • The Panthers' top-of-the-lineup got right to work in the bottom of the first inning. Ella Niles led off with a hit, steal, and run on a Chloe Fariello single. Two batters later, Miranda Schwartz crushed a bomb to dead center, giving Tech the 3-0 edge.
  • After two straight 1-2-3 by Hendrian in the second and third, Fariello singled again, setting up another home run, this time by Celeste Casillas, extending the Crimson and Gray's lead to five.
  • Malaya Nelson poked a ball for a hit at the bottom of the first, but neither team scored runs.
  • In the fifth inning, Kesley Hahn relieved Hendrian for her first career appearance. It could not have been a better debut, inducing two swinging strikeouts and a ground out to get out of the inning.
  • The freshman easily worked through the sixth and seventh, adding two more strikeouts. Hendrian and Hahn gave up zero hits in seven innings, holding the Panthers 5-0 lead for the win.

GAME TWO:
STATS OF THE GAME:

Final: Florida Tech 14, No. 11 Wilmington 2
Records: Florida Tech (10-12, 4-5 SSC) | Wilmington (6-6, 0-0 CACC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Despite giving up a double from the third batter, Sammy Murphy got out of the first unscathed.
  • Tech capitalized on Wildcat mistakes in the bottom of the first inning. Niles walked, then came home on Fariello and Casillas reaching on errors. With bases loaded, Haley Rider placed the ball away from Wilmington defenders, plating the Panthers' second run.
  • However, Tech took over the game in the second inning. The Panthers tallied seven consecutive base hits, three singles, two doubles, a triple, and a home run, adding seven to the scoreboard. The home run was a three-run shot coming off the bat of Brooklyn Lorenzo.
  • Murphy blanked the Wildcats again, and the offense picked up where they had left off at the bottom of the third. The first two runners reached base, allowing Natalia Guthrie to drive them on on a single to right field for her first career hit and RBI. Tech increased their lead to 13-0 when Schwartz drilled her second home run of the night over the left field wall.
  • Later in the same inning, Sage Verkler poked the ball up the middle, scoring their 14th and final run.
  • Julianna Hynes took over for Murphy in the fourth and produced a flyout and two popups to shortstop.
  • Wilmington, down 14-0, found life in the fifth, creating two singles to begin the inning. After two flyouts and a walk, Haley Grygo placed a ball on the left field, plating two runs. However, the next batter grounded out, ending the threat and securing the 14-2 victory for the Panthers.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:
