MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech softball team dropped the opening game against Barry, 6-0. The Panthers fell behind on a three-run home run in the second inning and could not catch back up.

STATS OF THE GAME:
- Each team had a runner on base in the first inning, with the Panthers' Chloe Fariello walking in her first plate appearance, but no runs were scored.
- With no outs, Barry loaded the bases in the second. An Ella Niles catch-and-throw at center field held the runners off, but the following batter grounded out to second for the 1-0 lead.
- Barry wanted more runs as Harper Bunn hit a three-run shot before ending the inning with a bunt right to the pitcher. The Buccaneers held a 4-0 edge after two innings.
- The teams combined for three hits in the next four innings, two off Panther bats, and the score remained 4-0 in Barry's favor.
- In the seventh, the Buccaneers earned insurance runs on a single and a double two batters later. The Panthers performed a stellar rally as Niles hit Celeste Casillas, who beamed a dart to home for a Dani Sigal tag, putting an end to the inning and leaving the score at 6-0.
- However, Tech did not score in the seventh, taking the 6-0 loss to Barry.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
- Ella Niles and Haley Ride recorded a hit each
- Hendrian pitched a complete game, striking out five.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Tech is 32-98 against Barry all-time
- Since the start of the 2015 season, the Panthers have gone 17-13 against the Buccaneers with five series wins.
- Tech is looking for its third consecutive series win at home against Barry
