In this edition of Beyond the Game, we are featuring Layna Pollock from Florida Tech softball. Layna is a senior from Boynton Beach, Florida, who graduated with a biomedical science degree.
 
What is your major, and why did you choose it?
"My major is Biomedical Science, and I chose it because I plan to attend vet school. So biomedical science has all the prerequisites I need to get in."

What was your favorite class at Florida Tech?
"I would say Chemistry just because it was one of the most challenging for me so just having that challenge."

What is one skill that you have brought from softball into the classroom?
"I would say time management, just because with having to do school and softball, it's just really important to balance your time and make sure you can get everything done in a day.
 
What advice would you give an incoming Panther softball player?
"Give it your all because if you want something, you can achieve it, so just keep going."
 
Why did you choose to pursue veterinary school?
"Growing up around animals and my dog, whom I loved, I've always had a passion for animals. Everyone always told me, 'You're the dog whisperer' whenever I'm around animals. I felt like it was meant to be for me."

How did you work towards graduating early with your bachelor's degree?
"It started in high school. I took a lot of AP classes, and that really helped. Once I got here, I knew what I wanted to do, set the goal, and worked towards it."
