Men’s Soccer Opens Season with Tie Against Lander

LANDER, S.C. - Florida Tech found the net early in the second half, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw with Lander on Friday Night. Logan Collins scored his and the team's first goal of the season.

STATS OF THE MATCH
  • In the first seven minutes, each team took a shot and attempted both a corner and free kick.
  • Tommy Chamberlain's shot at the 6:55 mark was saved by the Lander keeper in the low left corner.
  • A Lander defender blocked both of Mario Rekirsch's first-half shots at 12:48 and 16:45.
  • The next shot was taken by a Bearcat 20 minutes later. The Panthers had another opportunity in the 43rd minute, but once again it was saved by the Lander keeper.
  • Going into the half, the game remained a 0-0 tie.
  • Tech ended the scoring drought three and a half minutes into the second half. Logan Collins made a defender miss, then dropped the ball over the Bearcat keeper's head for the 1-0 Panther lead.
  • Lander took six swipes to level the game before finally punching one in at the 65th minute by Ryosuke Tanaka.
  • The Panthers had an opportunity late in the game, but could not regain the lead, tying the Bearcats 1-1.
 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • The Panthers are 3-1-2 all-time versus Lander.
  • The Panthers have begun their season against the Bearcats for the third consecutive season. FT has won the previous two openers by a combined 7-1.  
  • This is Tech's first-ever visit to Lander.
  • Florida Tech has won its past 15 season openers dating back to 2009.
