Men's Basketball Falls To Saint Leo

Xavier Ford-Belton Records 17 Point, 12 Rebound Double-Double

Saint Leo, Florida – Florida Tech wrapped up their week-long road trip this afternoon as they traveled to Saint Leo University.

GAME NOTES:
First Half:
  • The Panthers came out shooting with Ty Harpring and Noah Van Bibber each hitting a three in the first two minutes.
  • Both teams battled until 14-1 Saint Leo run gave the Lions a 16-7 lead.
  • Tech responded with a three from AJ Lieuwen and a Greyson Williams steal that led to a dunk.
  • Harpring drilled another three, Ca'Darrius Sowell hit back-to-back jumpers and Williams got past his defender for an easy layup to cut the SLU lead to one point at 28-27.
  • With five minutes left in the half, each side went bucket for bucket until Harpring and Williams finished two straight layups in the paint to tie the game at 34.
  • In the final minute, a Saint Leo three was the difference as both sides hit two shots each to close the half.
HALFTIME SCORE - Florida Tech 38, Saint Leo 39
Second Half:
  • The back and forth between these two teams continued into the second half as each side made three shots in the first two minutes, but it was back-to-back Panther threes that gave Tech a 46-45 lead.
  • Baskets from Noah Van Bibber, Xavier Ford-Belton, and Greyson Williams kept the Panthers in the lead as the game reached the 12-minute mark of the second half.
  • A 13-3 Saint Leo run flipped the game as the Lions took a four-point lead with under ten minutes to play.
  • Tech did respond but Saint Leo continued to hit shots as their advantage grew to double digits.
  • Not giving in, Tech went on a huge 14-2 run of their own to not just get back into the game but retake the lead 80-78 at the two-minute mark.
  • Unfortunately for Tech, while they held Saint Leo without a made field goal for the final four minutes of the game, the Lions hit 10 free throws in the final minute to win the game.

UP NEXT: Tech will return home next Wednesday, February 4th to face Rollins College. Tip-off for this SSC battle is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
