ST. PETE, FLA. – Panther Volleyball was back in action tonight as they traveled to the Gulf Coast of Florida to take on the Eckerd College Tritons.

MATCH NOTES:
First Set: Florida Tech Panthers 21, Eckerd College Tritons 25
  • Eckerd opened up the scoring with the first two points of the match before Isabelle Clark sparked a 3-0 run with a kill and a service ace.
  • The Tritons responded with an unanswered run of their own to take an early 7-3 lead.
  • Elisa Broggio earned a pair of kills and Clark picked up her first solo block of the match as the Panthers worked to cut the deficit to just two points.
  • Clark added another block by combining with Ayisha Missipo and followed that up with another solo to tie the set at 11-11.
  • Both sides began trading points as the scoreline remained tied through the middle part of the set.
  • The Panthers got a kill from Scarlett Kimbrell and a handful of errors from the Tritons but it was Eckerd who rallied to retake the lead 21-18 late in the set.
  • An Ayisha Missipo kill and a Hanna Schneider ace gave the Panthers a shot but the Tritons held on to take the first set.
Second Set: Florida Tech Panthers 22, Eckerd College Tritons 25
  • Cordelia Kearns earned two kills in the beginning stages of the second set, but the Tritons got out to another 7-3 early lead.
  • Isabelle Clark, Cordelia Kearns and Scarlett Kimbrell all earned kills as the Panthers rallied to pull within one point at 13-12.
  • Following two Triton points, Tech rolled off a 6-0 run, with two service aces from Natalie Rhodes, to take an 18-15 lead.
  • While the Panthers got another solo block from Clark and another kill from Elisa Broggio, Eckerd stormed back with 7-1 run to steal the second set.
Third Set: Florida Tech Panthers 27, Eckerd College Tritons 25
  • With their backs against the wall, the third set did not start in the Panthers favor. Eckerd opened the third set with a 5-1 lead.
  • Needing a response, Kearns and Rhodes led a 4-0 run to tie the set.
  • Both teams began trading points, leading to tie scores at 7-7 and 9-9.
  • Eckerd retook the lead and what looked like control of the set as they led by multiple points, including a set-high lead of seven at 23-16
  • Despite the deficit, the Panthers were not afraid of the challenge. A service error and huge kill from Scarlett Kimbrell sparked the largest comeback of the season.
  • Tech used a 6-0 run to pull within one point of the Tritons. After Eckerd earned set point, Kimbrell again came up big. Producing a kill and forcing an Eckerd attack error to send the set to extra points.
  • Eckerd retook the lead 25-24, but the Panther front row forced another attack error to get even.
  • Tech used another Eckerd error to take a 26-25 lead and who else but Kimbrell put the set away with a block assist with Broggio.
Fourth Set: Florida Tech Panthers 19, Eckerd College Tritons 25
  • After a huge comeback in the third set, Cordelia Kearns began the fourth set with a kill.
  • For the first time in the match, it was the Panthers who had the early lead as Kearns and Kimbrell gave Tech a 5-2 lead.
  • The Tritons battled back to tie the set and both sides again began trading points.
  • Following an Ayisha Missipo kill, the Tritons earned the set's first big run. Eckerd used an 8-1 run to take control early.
  • Tech forced three Triton errors, but another run of 5-1 from Eckerd put them up 22-16 late in the set.
  • Cordelia Kearns and Dora Filipovic earned kills and Elisa Broggio produced a service ace, but Eckerd was able to close out the set and win the match.
NOTABLE PANTHERS: UP NEXT: The Panthers will be staying on the east coast of Florida for another match this weekend. Tech will face Saint Leo on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
