Panthers Never Wavered Coming Out on Top of Extra Innings Battle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Despite Palm Beach Atlantic tying the game on multiple occasions, the Panthers found a way to answer in a 10-7 win in 13 innings. The Panthers showed impressive defense to keep the game alive along with timely hitting to ultimately leave with their first conference win of the season.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Palm Beach Atlantic started strong with a leadoff single and capitalizing on a throwing error for the first run of the game.
  • While the Panthers offense was finding its groove, Kelsey Hahn worked out of the second inning, ending it with a strike out.
  • In the following half inning, Mia Terito was hit by a pitch, and two outs later was driven home on a Miranda Schwartz moon shot to deep left field, giving Tech the 2-1 lead.
  • Hahn made the first batter whiff on a third strike in the bottom of the third. Then Kate Rodel threw a dart for Brooklyn Lorenzo to tag the runner out at second. The final out was a fly out to center field.
  • Lorenzo made her impact offensively, doubling for an RBI and the 3-1 advantage.
  • Adding another strikeout and inducing two popups kept the Sailfish with no runs in the fourth.
  • The Sailfish homered in the sixth to draw within one.
  • An error and two walks loaded the bases for Tech in the seventh. Rodel reached on a fielder's choice scoring the runner on third, having the Panthers up 4-2.
  • However, in the bottom of the seventh, PBA walked in a run and drove in another via a groundout to second.
  • Terito saved the Panthers from a walk-off firing a dart to home plate for the second out of the inning. Ava McCormick came in relief a struck out the final batter, forcing extras.
  • McCormick's two strikeouts in the eighth kept the Panthers alive despite scoring zero runs in the eighth and ninth.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, the Sailfish singled twice and walked but could not end the game due to a fly out to left field.
  • Tech led off the 10th with a Lorenzo and Chloe Fariello singles and a hit by pitch to have bases juiced with zero outs. But the Panthers were unable to take a lead.
  • An error and double had the Sailfish at second and third with one out but again eased the stress when Terito gunned down another runner at home plate.
  • The Panthers saw a single from Audrey Gurule in the 11th but would leave her stranded.
  • McCormick struck out two Sailfish in the bottom of the 11th as she continued to hold down the fort.
  • Tech finally broke through in the 12th for three runs. Fariello made it two first for the third straight time on a perfect bunt. After an Emma Chisholm walk, Haley Rider ripped a ball to right center, bringing both batters home. Rider later sprinted to score the third run on a Rodel sacrifice fly.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic wasn't ready for the game to be over, answering with three runs of their own.
  • The response did not faze the Panthers instead they put up three more runs in the 13th on two outs. The first two batters had long outs in the right gap, but Fariello would double and then take advantage of a wild pitch and throwing error for the 8-7 lead.
  • For good measure, Emma Chisholm blasted a two-run shot to right field, increasing Tech's advantage to 10-7.
  • Tech left McCormick out to pitch the bottom of the 13th and she would deliver a leadoff strikeout then finish the game throwing a groundball to first base.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Chloe Fariello was a tough out, going 5-ofr-8 with a double and two runs.
  • Emma Chisholm did it all from the plate, tallying three hits, two RBI and two walks along with her massive home run in extras.
  • Miranda Schwartz crushed another home run for two RBI
  • Kate Rodel continues to drive runners into score with two more RBI.
  • Ava McCormick earned her first career win, pitching seven innings and striking out seven.
 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Panthers move to 42-31 all-time versus the Sailfish.
  • Chisholm already has sixth home runs on the season which ties her with seven other Panthers for 10th most in a season by a Panther.
  • It is Tech's longest game since a 4-3, 13-inning loss at Tampa on March 9, 2019.
  • Fariello with the first five-hit game since Cheyenne Nelson vs. Saint Leo on April 17, 2021.
UP NEXT: The Panthers are back at Simpson field for a doubleheader against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday afternoon. Game Two of the series will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
