Scichilone Collects 100th Career Assist, Panthers Show Fight on the Road Against No. 17 Regis

DENVER, CO – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team battled against No. 17 Regis on Thursday, Feb. 26.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • Phoebe Hurt played great defense as she caused two Regis turnovers within the first two minutes.
  • With nine minutes remaining in the quarter, Bridget Robinson made a great save on a Regis free position shot to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard.
  • Defense prevailed early as the first goal of the game came from Malori May with 6:58 on the clock. This is May's first collegiate goal.
  • Robinson continued to reject the Rangers as she made two saves shortly after the Panther goal.
  • Regis tied the score with 4:21 on the clock.
  • 40 seconds after the Rangers took the lead, Sophia Scichilone scored to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Regis was able to steal the lead with 1:20 remaining in the first quarter as they went into the second quarter with the one goal lead.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Phoebe Hurt started the scoring in the second quarter as she found the back of the net with 11:50 on the clock.
  • Tech would score three consecutive man-up goals by Gillian Craig, Sofie Bender and Isa Brown. Scichilone picked up two assists in the 4-0 Panther run.
  • Regis earned a free position shot at the 7:23 mark, but Bridget Robinson made another save. Robinson would stop the Rangers again nine seconds later.
  • The Rangers shrunk the Tech lead to two with a goal with 6:44 left in the half.
  • Regis got within one with a goal just under five minutes.
  • Hurt caused another Regis turnover which led to a Gillian Craig goal with 38 seconds remaining in the half.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Tech fired three shots after winning the draw control, two were saved while one was wide.
  • After a groundball pick up by Scichilone, Phoebe Hurt scored off an assist by Scichilone.
  • The Rangers were able to get within one as they scored at 11:44 and 10:11.
  • Abby Cudzilo joined in the scoring as she notched her first goal of the game off a free position shot.
  • After a Regis goal, Tech responded as Cudzilo struck again at the with four minutes remaining in the third.
  • Both teams exchanged free position goals as the Panthers went into the fourth quarter with an 11-9 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • RU scored five unanswered goals to a take a 14-11 lead over Florida Tech.
  • Tech showed fight and did not quit as Gillian Craig scored with 1:27 remaining.
  • Abby Cudzilo put one by the Regis goalie to bring Tech within one with a minute remaining.
  • Clare McGuire won the draw control to get the Panthers back on offense. Sophia Scichilone fired a shot with 12 seconds left but it was saved by the Regis goalie to preserve the one goal lead as Regis went on to win 14-13.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Sophia Scichilone became the first player in program history to collect 100 or more assists in a career as she had four in the game.
  • Abby Cudzilo and Gillian Craig had hat tricks.
  • Eight total Panthers scored. (Cudzilo, Craig, Hurt, Scichilone, Bender, May, Fitzpatrick and Brown)
  • Emma Angelo won five draw controls while the Panthers won 18 out of 29 draw controls.
  • Tech was 3-for-3 in free position shots.
  • The Panthers collected 23 ground balls compared to the Rangers 15.

The Panthers will next take on Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Feb. 28 in Grand Junction, Co. Game scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. MST/2:00 p.m. EST.
