GAME NOTES:
First Half:
- The Panthers started this afternoon's contest with a bang as Ca'Darrius Sowell picked his man's pocket for a steal that led to a Grant Lovette three-pointer.
- Both teams traded baskets until Sowell hit back-to-back off-balance floaters to give Tech a 9-6 lead.
- Matt Daulerio got inside for a tough layup and converted the and-one as the Panthers continued to be efficient early.
- Greyson Williams hit a mid-range jumper, Brewer Nitcher drilled a corner three, and the Panther defense continued to cause Eckerd problems (1-9 shooting, 4 turnovers, 2 blocks) as the Tech lead grew to double digits before the ten-minute mark.
- The Panther defense continued to shine as they held the Tritons to just 12 points with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
- Despite the tough defense, Eckerd used six free throws and buckets in the paint to go on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 19.
- Tech responded with another three from Brewer Nitcher and an elbow jumper from Greyson Williams.
- In the final minutes of the half, the lead changed hands a few times, but big baskets from Greyson Williams, Ty Harpring and Matt Daulerio put Tech ahead at the end of the half.
HALFTIME SCORE - Florida Tech 38, Eckerd 31
Second Half:
- Both teams came out of halftime and couldn't miss. Tech got three pointers from Sowell and Williams to stay out front 46-43 at the under-16-minute media.
- After Eckerd cut the lead to one point, Sowell, Harpring, Daulerio and Williams combined for nine straight points to re-extend the lead to 55-46.
- The Tritons responded with a small run of their own, but tough defense and key shot making kept the Panthers out front by multiple possessions.
- The Eckerd run continued and the Tritons took the lead and went up 67-60 with eight minutes left to play.
- Needing an answer, Greyson Williams drilled two straight threes and Brewer Nitcher converted a put-back and-one to pull the Panthers to within one point.
- Williams added to the Tech run by getting inside to draw a foul, hitting two free throws to put Tech back in front 73-72.
- Both teams battled back and forth but it was Eckerd who took an 84-82 lead into the final two minutes of the game.
- Eckerd extended the lead by hitting a three, but Williams responded right away with a smooth finish to pull Tech back within three points.
- While Tech found two more baskets in the final minute, Eckerd closed out the game with free throws.
