Panthers Ride Dominant Pitching to Sweep Lynn

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech swept Lynn in a doubleheader, earning a 9–4 win in game one before grinding out a 3–2 victory in game two. The Panthers used power and a late offensive push in the opener, then relied on pitching and clutch hits to hold off Lynn in a tight second game.

GAME ONE:

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Chloe Fariello let up a leadoff single but then responded with a ground out and two punchouts.
  • Fariello would then work a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second.
  • Tech opened the scoring in the second inning as Kate Rodel doubled and later came home on a sacrifice fly from Mia Terito to take a 1–0 lead.
  • Lynn answered in the third inning, using a pair of hits and a two-RBI fielder's choice to take a 2–1 advantage.
  • The Panthers answered in a big way in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs in the inning. Fariello doubled to leadoff then Jillian Moeller delivered a two-RBI double two batters later
  • Kate Rodel, Malaya Nelson, and Terito each drove in runs to give Florida Tech a 6–2 lead.
  • Fariello limited Lynn's opportunities in the middle innings, stranding runners in the fourth and retiring the side in order in the fifth to maintain control.
  • The Panthers added insurance in the fifth inning as Chloe Fariello doubled home a run, Emma Chisholm followed with an RBI single, and Miranda Schwartz capped the inning with a two-run home run, securing a 10–2 run rule victory!

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Lynn took an early 1–0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and a sacrifice bunt to bring home an unearned run.
  • Tech threatened in the first with a Fariello leadoff hit and an error putting two runners on, but Lynn's defense erased the opportunity with a caught stealing at third base.
  • Kelsey Hahn found a groove in the second striking out two batters in a three up, three down inning. She would have another 1-23 inning and one punchout in the third.
  • Fariello singled and Emma Chisholm walked, setting up Jillian Moeller for a two-RBI single to give Florida Tech a 2–1 lead after three innings.
  • Malaya Nelson added to Tech's advantage in the fourth singling and later scored on an RBI single from Fariello to make it 3–1.
  • Lynn cut the deficit to one in the fifth inning, stealing second and third, followed by scoring on a single to center field.
  • Sammy Murphy came in relief and shut the Lynn offense down, striking out the first two batters and wrapping up the fifth on a pop out.
  • Murphy retired the side in order in the sixth and working around a base runner in the seventh to hold the lead.
  • Florida Tech held on in a tight finish to secure the 3–2 victory.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Chloe Fariello grabbed five hits in six at-bats, knocking down two doubles and driving home two RBI.
  • Fariello also secure the Game Two win, pitching all five innings and striking out three batters.
  • Jillian Moeller recorded four RBI on two hits.
  • Kelsey Hahn pitched four innings, struck out four, and earned the win
  • Sammy Murphy earned the seven after pitching the final three innings and striking out four.
 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • Tech moved to 70-30 all-time versus Lynn and 25-4 since the start of the 2018 season.
  • The Panthers are 42-14 at home against the Fighting Knights, including a 26-5 mark under Val Silvestrini
  • Miranda Schwartz broke the career hit-by-pitch record
  • Schwartz became the eighth player in program history with 90 career RBI.
  • With Emma Chisholm at 15 home runs for the season and Mandy Schwartz at 10, they are the second pair of Florida Tech teammates to have 10 or more home runs in the same season. Courtney Harless and Megan Hube each hit 10 in 2006.
