Panthers Earn First SSC Win of 2026, Tie Season-High of 19 Goals

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team picks up their first conference win of the season, 19-8, over Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, Mar. 25.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • PBA was first on the scoreboard with man-up opportunity after a green card on the Panthers. The Sailfish cashed in on the opportunity with a goal in the first minute and a half.
  • After a Bridget Robinson save, PBA was hit with a yellow card. The Panthers returned the favor as Abby Cudzilo scored to tie the game.
  • A second yellow card for PBA gave Tech another man-up situation where Clare McGuire scored off an Ailish Fitzpatrick assist.
  • Fitzpatrick would pick up a second assist in the period as she connected with Gillian Craig to put Tech up 4-2.
  • Sophia Scichilone would put one passed the PBA goalie to cap off the scoring in the first quarter.
  • Clare McGuire won all seven draw controls in the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Panthers struck first to open the second quarter as Sofie Bender joined the scoring off an assist by Cudzilo.
  • Scichilone found Calli Campagna in front of the Sailfish net which Campagna cashed in on the scoring opportunity to push the Tech lead to 7-3.
  • Campagna hit another goal with 5:20 remaining.
  • Gillian Craig added to the Panther lead with a free position shot goal just under the five-minute mark.
  • Tech would double-up on the free position shots as Sofie Bender found the back of the net as the Panthers reached double-digit goals before halftime.
  • Sophia Scichilone would hit a buzzer-beater with one second remaining to give Tech all the momentum with an 11-5 lead going into half.
THIRD QUARTER
  •  Tech added to their lead with goals from Gillian Craig, Phoebe Hurt and Abby Cudzilo, all within the first four minutes of the third quarter. Bender and Scichilone picked up assists.
  • The Panthers were scorching hot on offense as McGuire, Craig and Cudzilo all scored within a three-minute stretch to extend the Tech lead to 17-5. Scichilone added two more assist with the Craig and Cudzilo goals.
  • Ella Brophy was excellent on defense as she caused three turnovers at the 5:56, 2:44 and 1:39 marks.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Palm Beach Atlantic made an attempt at a comeback with a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter to stop the running clock.
  • Sofie Bender hit goal sat the 3:47 mark and with 40 seconds left to put the game well out of reach.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • The Panthers tied a season-high of 19 goals scored tonight.
  • Cudzilo, Bender and Craig were on point on offense as each turned in four-goal efforts.
  • Scichilone notched a five-assist game and added two goals herself.
  • McGuire notched her fourth game this season with double-digit draw controls. Her and Campagna had multi-goal games themselves.
  •  Ella Brophy played tough defense as she caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
  • Isabelle Perry led the team with four ground balls.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will next take on the No. 4 Tampa Spartans on Saturday, Mar. 28. First draw scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex.
