Panthers Drop Home Tilt to Lander

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team falls in the final minute to Lander on Saturday, Mar. 7.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • Florida Tech seized the early momentum started with three consecutive draw controls wins by Clare McGuire.
  • All three led to Panthers goals from Phoebe Hurt, Gillian Craig and Abby Cudzilo.
  • Craig scored again shortly after off an assist by Sophia Scichilone to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.
  • Hurt and Craig scored back-to-back at the five-minute mark, both assisted by Scichilone.
  • Lander tallied two goals in the quarter.
  • Scichilone was distributing the ball all over with four assists in the period.
  • Clare McGuire was dominant as she won six draw controls.
  • Craig had secured a hat trick in the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Phoebe Hurt earned her hat trick with a man-up goal to start the second quarter.
  • The Bearcats quickly flipped the script as they went on a 5-0 run to tie the score at 7-7. 
  • With time about to expire, Abby Cudzilo fired a free position shot by the Bearcat goalie to give Tech the lead going into half. 
  • Lander was able to limit the Panthers draw control wins as they held Tech to just one in the quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
  •  Lander tied the game two minutes after halftime with a man-up goal.
  • Tech returned the favor with a man-up goal of their own scored by Cudzilo.
  • Clare McGuire extended the Tech lead as the Panthers took advantage of another power play.
  • Both teams exchanged two-point swings as Lander scored twice within a 30 second span. Hurt and McGuire both scored under the four-minute mark to push the lead back to two.
  •  The Bearcats notched a goal with 2:11 on the clock to cut the deficit to one going into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The back-and-forth game continued as the Bearcats scored as both teams were knotted up at 12-12.
  • Sofie Bender scored off a nice pass by Cudzilo as tech took another lead.
  • After a Florida Tech yellow card, Lander took advantage of the man-up situation to tie the score yet again.
  • With a man-down, Tech scored their first man-down goal of the season as McGuire shot it passed the Bearcat goalie.
  • The Bearcats forced a Panther turnover and quickly called a timeout with 4:28 remaining. Lander would capitalize a score off the turnover.
  • LU would force another Tech turnover with the game tied 14-14. Lander would end up scoring and taking their first lead of the game with two minutes left.
  • The Panthers would get one final chance after Isa Brown caused a Lander turnover, followed by a Tech timeout.
  • The Bearcats would break up a pass to force one last turnover as the final seconds came off the clock.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Phoebe Hurt was excellent as she led the Panthers with four goals and added three draw controls.
  • Cudzilo, Craig and McGuire notched hat tricks.
  • McGuire would collect 11 draw controls while Malori May won four.
  • Ogren and Wittman forced two Lander turnovers each.
  • Both teams were even with 26 shots a piece.
  • Tech won 20 draw controls.
