Volleyball Comes up Short Against Lynn

Melbourne, Florida – Florida Tech Volleyball was back at home this afternoon, hosting #12 Lynn University.

MATCH NOTES:
First Set: Florida Tech Panthers 23, Lynn Fighting Knights 25
  • This afternoon's contest began with Florida Tech taking the first lead after a Cordelia Kearns Kill.
  • Elisa Broggio joined in with a kill of her own and Tech held an early 5-3 lead.
  • After the Fighting Knights tied the scoreline, Isabelle Clark added a kill of her own to re-give the Panthers an 8-7 advantage.
  • Lynn took their first lead of the match at 9-8, but Tech responded with a 3-0 run to go up 11-9.
  • The Fighting Knights matched the run with three straight points of their own, and both teams began trading points.
  • Scarlett Kimbrell and Broggio combined for a block and Clark, Kearns and Ayisha Missipo racked up kills as the set was knotted up at 20-20.
  • After the first set remained tied at 22-22, Lynn used a 3-1 run to close out the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Second Set: Florida Tech Panthers 15, Lynn Fighting Knights 25
  • The second set began much like the end of the first, with both teams trading points and tied scores at 3-3 and 5-5, with Kearns and Missipo adding to their kill totals.
  • Unfortunately for Tech, Lynn used a huge 10-2 run to take control of the set.
  • A Cordelia Kearns kill and a few service errors from the Fighting Knights put an end to the run but the Panthers still trailed 22-12 late in the set.
  • Despite more errors from Lynn, the Panthers went down 0-2 in the match,
Third Set: Florida Tech Panthers 10, Lynn Fighting Knights 25
  • Lynn began the third set on a 13-1 run, putting the Panthers in a deep hole.
  • McCoy Phister earned a service ace and Kearns and Broggio added kills to attempt a comeback but Tech was unable to find a spark.
  • Every Panther point was matched by one from the Fighting Knights as they went on to take the third set and the Match.
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will have another short turnaround before their next SSC match. The Panthers will head south to take on Barry University on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 PM.
