Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Panthers Knock Off No. 11 Ashland with Mottershead's 52nd Minute Game-Winner

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team defeats their second top 15 opponent of the season as they knocked off No. 11 Ashland on Thursday, Sept. 3.

GAME NOTES
  • The Panthers possessed the ball early in the half as Nina Santiago fired multiple shots at the Eagle net with the second being saved.
  • Ashland responded with a shot of their own in the 15th minute that resulted in a corner for the Eagles. The corner was well-defended by Florida Tech as no shots on goal was registered.
  • For the third consecutive game, Tech gained the early 1-0 advantage as Eboni Bradshaw scored off a pass by Lotte Waibel in the 22nd minute.
  • The Eagles were able to hit the equalizer off a misplayed ball by the Tech defense. Ashland capitalized on the mistake to tie the Panthers at 1-1.
  • Ellinor Blaasternes attempted to break the tie in the 36th minute, but her shot missed high.
  • Alice Mottershead fired two shots on goal towards the end of the half, but both were saved by the Eagle goaltender.
  • In the 52nd minute, Mottershead took the free kick following a foul on the Eagles. Mottershead's kick was perfectly placed as it just tucked under the crossbar and over the Ashland goalie's outstretched hand to give the Panthers the 2-1 advantage. 
  • Rio Naganawa had two shots blocked by Eagle defenders in the 58th minute.
  • Mette Brandes made her first save of the game in the 59th minute diving to her right.
  • Tech was able to fend off another Ashland attack as the following corner kick led to nothing.
  • Ashland applied pressure in the 65th and 66th minutes as they earned three corner kicks, none of which led to a shot on goal.
  • The Eagles kept on the attack with another corner in the 75th minute. Ashland got a shot off, but it missed high.
  • Ashland was able to get one final shot on goal off in the 83rd minute, but Mette Brandes was there to preserve the led with her second save.
  • The Panthers were able to defend the rest of the way as they won their third game of the season.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • This was the first ever meeting between the two schools.
  • Eboni Bradshaw and Alice Mottershead both scored with Mottershead's being the game-winner in the 52ndminute.
  • Lotte Waibel picked up her third assist of her freshman campaign.
  • With the win, Head Coach Katy Freels moves into third place for most wins by a head coach in program history.
  • The Panthers have now scored in 14 consecutive games dating back to October 29th of 2025.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 5 as Tech takes on Tusculum at 11:00 a.m. on Rick Stottler Field.
