Under Hering's leadership, Danny Vassallo posted a 7-2 pitching record, with a 3.54 ERA, and became the third Panther reliever in program history to record 60 strikeouts in a season. Additionally, Alex Carpenter recorded his 13th career save, tying for fifth most in program history.

During his first three years on the Crimson and Gray staff, Tech went 53-45 overall and 34-27 in SSC play. In the two seasons in which the Panthers played a full season, they finished fourth in the conference in 2019 and second in 2021, which was their highest ever SSC finish. Florida Tech has had three pitchers named to the All-SSC Team in that time, including Justin Lorenz and Boris Villa in 2021. In addition, the Panthers also had the SSC leader in saves in 2019 (Ryan Allain) and 2021 (Alex Carpenter).

A former Division I student-athlete, Hering emerged as a closer at Florida Gulf Coast from 2016 to 2018. In 67 career appearances with the Eagles, six of which were starts, Hering went 16-7 with 15 saves and a 3.56 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 134 innings pitched.

In his best season at FGCU, Hering went 7-3 with seven saves and a 1.96 ERA while striking out 77 over 59 2/3 IP during the 2017 season. Hering appeared in a single-season school record 30 games and had the most strikeouts of any reliever in the Atlantic Sun Conference. He helped the Eagles win their first ever ASUN Tournament championship by recording a save in Game One of the Championship Round against Jacksonville. Hering went on to record the save in FGCU’s first ever NCAA Tournament victory over Michigan.

Originally from Melbourne, Hering attended and played baseball at Viera High School, where he helped the Hawks reached the regional tournament for the first time in school history.

Hering graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Criminal Justice from FGCU in 2018
