Amy O’Brien enters her 10th season as head coach of the Florida Tech volleyball program in the 2021 season.
In her fifth season as the Florida Tech Volleyball head coach, Amy guided the Panthers to an overall record of 8-22, going 5-8 at home and 3-4 at neutral site locations. During the 2017 season, O'Brien's team ended the South Region Crossover with a perfect score, winning all three games played. The Crimson and Gray were garnished with the 2016-17 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.
During her fourth season at the helm of FIT, O'Brien led the Panthers to a 13-16 record including a 4-12 mark in the SSC. Florida Tech went 8-5 at home that season and 5-1 in neutral site games. Highlighting the campaign was a 3-1 upset victory over No. 17 Florida Southern on Nov. 10 at the Clemente Center. The Panthers had two student-athletes receive all-league honors as Alea Hamm was named an All-SSC Honorable Mention and Olivia Hersey to the All-Freshman Team.
O'Brien concluded her third season in 2014. Florida Tech registered five straight set wins and picked up four more victories in five set matches, including the season finale where FIT came back from two sets down to knock off Eckerd.
With 40 wins in her first three seasons at the helm of FIT volleyball, O'Brien ranks fourth in school history in victories by a head coach.
In 2013, O'Brien guided FIT to a 9-1 start including a 7-1 record in tournaments, 4-0 at the Pace Setters Classic in N.Y. and a second consecutive 15-win season for the first time since the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
O’Brien led the Panthers to a 15-14 record in her first season at the helm, the most wins FIT registered since the 2008 campaign. Under O’Brien, Angie Lassman earned All-Sunshine State Conference First Team and Daktronics All-South Region Second Team honors in 2012.
Named head coach on May 4, 2012 after previously serving as interim head coach in the spring of 2012 and assistant coach the previous two years. As an assistant coach, O'Brien focused on defense and serve-receive with the liberos and defensive specialists.
O’Brien totaled 1,717 career digs in her four-year collegiate career at the libero position. She played two years at Florida State College at Jacksonville, earning NJCAA All-Region, Florida Community College Activities Association All-State and All Mid-Florida Conference. She then played two years at FIT and finished her tenure only 13 digs away from accumulating 1,000 digs as a Panther. Her 487 digs in 2009 ranked third in the Sunshine State Conference.
O’Brien graduated from Florida Tech with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009 and earned her Masters of Business Administration from FIT in 2015.
