Panthers' Season Comes to a Close in 3-1 Defeat

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – With the 2015 campaign coming to an end, Florida Tech hoped to steal one more win for the departing seniors Saturday when it hosted the No. 9 team in the nation, Palm Beach Atlantic.

The Panthers (13-16) came out firing on all cylinders against the Sailfish, snagging the opening set, however PBA (26-4) picked up its game from there and grinded out a four set victory over FIT (19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 26-24).

Jenna Schaffer was impressive in her team's final match, finishing with 13 kills and a match-high 23 digs.

FIT's seniors really stepped up in the contest, forcing the Sailfish to have to play their best game to stop the Panther assault.

Kim Juriga ended with 13 kills, while Marilyn Dick reached a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Alea Hamm added 10 kills to her team's effort and Ashtin Truesdale dished out a match-high 36 assists to go along with nine digs. Rounding out the seniors was Cassidy Ziech with two kills and one block and Payton Bayless with seven digs and three assists.

For the Sailfish, Sarah Ragland paced her team on both sides of the net with 17 kills and seven blocks. Faith Rohn added a double-double on 11 kills and 14 assists, while Ally Rohn had an all-around performance registering eight kills, 27 assists and six digs. Alexandra Roberts finished with 19 assists and eight digs, while Rachael Holehouse collected 22 digs for PBA.

The Panthers started the match with an attack percentage of .341 in the opening set, however it dipped throughout the remainder of the contest eventually landing at .147 in the final stanza. Conversely, the Sailfish were hitting just .114 in the first set but converted at a .359 clip in the third set before eventually come back down to .237 in the fourth.

FIT finished the match with more kills (59-55), more assists (58-52) and more digs (79-65) than PBA, however the Sailfish' effort at the net caused fits for their opponent. Every time the Panthers got a run going, PBA shut the door with one of its match-high eight total team blocks.

With the season now at a close, Florida Tech would like to wish its six seniors, Payton Bayless, Marilyn Dick, Alea Hamm, Kim Juriga, Ashtin Truesdale and Cassidy Ziech the best of luck in their future endeavors. For the returning Panthers, they look forward to getting back to work when they reunite in the spring.
