Volleyball Downed by Eckerd on the Road

FIT falls to SSC-leading Tritons 3-0 in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Volleyball) - Following a successful weekend at the South Region Crossover, Florida Tech volleyball (5-12, 0-6 SSC) was unable to keep the momentum going when it resumed Sunshine State Conference action on Thursday, as the Panthers were overpowered 3-0 by the Eckerd Tritons (14-6, 6-2 SSC) at the McArthur Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.

FIT kept it competitive with the SSC-leading Tritons throughout the match, falling by set scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-20. Eckerd topped the Panthers in both hit percentage .228 to .155 and total blocks 9-6, including an 18-8 edge in block assists.

Jenna Schaffer, Kiayna O'Neal and Olivia Hersey each had seven kills in the match. Schaffer also recorded nine digs and two blocks and Hersey collected a team-high four blocks. Kiersten Rosa dished out 25 assists to go along with eight digs and two blocks, while Becca Bower and Kyra Atkinson notched 10 and seven digs, respectively.

Pacing Eckerd tonight was Kali Boatwright with 15 kills, seven digs and three block assists. Jaquayla Baker added nine kills and a match-high five blocks and Lauryn Nelson collected eight kills. Gabriella Reis handed out 41 assists for the Tritons, while Kaitlyn Sibson tallied a match-best 18 digs.

The SSC slate continues for Florida Tech on Saturday, Oct. 22, as it travels to Lakeland, Florida for a bout with No. 25 Florida Southern at 7 p.m. ET. Access links to live coverage of the action at FloridaTechSports.com.
