ATLANTA, Ga. (Men's Basketball) – After hitting the halftime break tied at 49 all, Florida Tech couldn't keep up with Clark Atlanta in the second half Saturday afternoon, losing 87-78.
With the loss the Panthers drop to 0-2 on the young season after falling in both games of the NCAA South Regional Tipoff Classic.
For the second consecutive game,
Sam Daniel was impressive in defeat. The junior dropped in 31 points on 10-of-17 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds before fouling out.
Jordan Majors also reached double-figures, posting 16 points on a fairly inefficient 4-of-15 from the field
Just like the previous night, the Panthers allowed five players to score in double-figures. Tim Sanders led the way with 22 points and Damien Davis countered with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Lawrance Triplett was a monster on the boards with 17 rebounds, while also chipping in 14 points.
The Panthers led for the entirety of the first half until Triplett converted a pair of free throws to knot the game at 49-49. FIT regained the lead to start the second 20 minutes when Majors slammed home a dunk at the 18:51 mark, assisted by
Patrick Anderson.
However, just over two minutes later the CAU claimed its first lead at 51-49 on a Davis lay in. The Panthers would never see the lead again as Clark Atlanta outscored FIT 36-29 the rest of the way.
The Panthers will have an opportunity at home to get in the win column on Monday, hosting Puerto Rico-Mayaguez at the Clemente Center at 7 p.m. ET. Links to live coverage will be available at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
