Panthers Put It On Late to Avoid Let Down Against Point

Daniel pours in 32 points, Booth nets a career-high 20

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men's Basketball) – After not playing up to potential for much of the night, Florida Tech flipped the switch late in its game against Point Monday night, taking down the Skyhawks 99-77 on the second and final day of the Florida Tech Winter Classic at the Clemente Center.

Sam Daniel was an offensive juggernaut, posting 32 points on 8-of-32 shooting, pulling down 12 rebounds. Robert Booth was a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor, putting up a career-high 20 points, adding 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

Jordan Majors chipped in 19 points, knocking down all 10 of his free throws, and dished out four assists. Patrick Anderson also reached double-figures, recording 10 points and seven dimes.

Dedrick Turner came off the bench for the Skyhawks to lead the team with 26 points and six rebounds. Joshua Tolbert and Makhai Eastmond were the other players for Point to score in double-figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The final score was no indication of how close the game was, with the lead changing hands six times and the Skyhawks leading for large chunks of time.

Early on Tolbert spearheaded the Skyhawk attack, nailing 4-of-6 field goal attempts including 3-of-5 shots from long range. Daniel did his best to keep the Panthers in range, sinking four threes of his own on the way to 15 first half points.

With FIT leading 11-9, Tolbert went on an individual 8-0 run to put PU up 17-11. The Skyhawks continued to hold that lead until the 8:19 mark of the first half, when Majors knocked down a triple.

Both teams went cold late in the stanza, with no points being scored for over five minutes before Turner ended the drought with a layup with 1:17 on the clock. Both teams traded buckets to end the period and Point entered halftime with a 38-34 advantage.

An Andre Cinicola dunk extended the lead to six to open the second half but Daniel took over from there to regain the advantage for the Panthers, recording a 9-0 run.

With 10:24 to go, Tolbert knocked down a three to give the Skyhawks a one point lead but a pair of free throws from Daniel put the Panthers up for good.

Things quickly got out of hand for PU as FIT blew open the game with a 39-16 run to close out the game.

Booth owned the second half, putting up 18 of his 20 points in the final 20 minutes. Daniel came close to a double-double in the second stanza alone, posting 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Panthers will take some time off to enjoy the holidays before returning to action right before the New Year. FIT takes on Lynn in Boca Raton, Florida on Dec. 30 before travelling across the state to Fort Myers for an exhibition with Division I opponent Florida Gulf Coast the next day.
