Eagles Break Panthers Winning-Streak

FIT drops to ERAU in straight sets

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Volleyball) - On Tuesday night, Florida Tech (7-8, SSC 2-7) snapped its three-match winning streak as Embry-Riddle (8-7, SSC 3-6) defeated the Panthers at the ICI Center.

In the mid-week event, the Panthers left the hardwood with 28 kills for a .052 clip and 26 assists, while defensively counting 56 digs and six blocks.

Junior outside hitter Kelly Germain led the Crimson and Gray offense with eight kills. Freshman outside hitter Audrey Keenan and junior setter/opposite hitter Kiersten Rosa pitched in with five kills apiece. Rosa also recorded a team-high .250 clip and 22 assists, joined by five digs and one block assist.

The Panthers put themselves in a deep hole in the opening set, as ERAU reeled off five consecutive points to begin the match. Florida Tech finally got on the board after the Eagles misplayed a ball that was hit into the net. However, Embry-Riddle went on to outhit FIT, .257 to .073, and ultimately took the first stanza, 25-17.

Early in the second set, the Panthers tied the score only once. Although recording 12 kills, Florida Tech was never able to close the gap and dropped to ERAU, 25-17.

The third set started closely contested, with the Panthers rallying back to notch a 3-2 lead. However, the Daytona based team quickly regained the lead and overlapped FIT, 11-5. Germain and freshman right side hitter Tania Kottke combined with three kills and one service ace to shorten the Eagles stretch, 13-10. Trying to manage a comeback, Florida Tech continued to battle before the Eagles used a 7-0 run to close the set, 25-13.

The Panthers return home this weekend to host SSC rival Eckerd College. First set is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
